Altinópolis brings together cultural attractions and natural destinations such as Gruta de Itambé. If you’re looking for a vacation rental in Altinópolis, you can start by planning your stay around your interests: art and local history, or the natural attractions of the Itambé complex.
Art, Culture and Events
Praça das Esculturas is located in Altinópolis, in the state of São Paulo, and was inaugurated in 1992. It is considered one of the most important works by the Italo-Brazilian artist Bassano Vaccarini. The sculptures displayed there are recognized as historically and culturally valuable to Altinópolis and are protected under municipal heritage preservation law.
Casa da Cultura is one of the city’s tourist attractions. The Museu e Casa da Cultura houses an art collection featuring root and bronze sculptures, as well as paintings and drawings. The collection thus encompasses a range of materials and forms, from three-dimensional works to painting and drawing.
The 45th Expoal 2026 is also one of Altinópolis’ longest-running and most eagerly anticipated events. If the event is relevant to your trip, check the dates for the 2026 edition before planning your accommodation.
Squares, Walks and Regional Landscapes
Altinópolis’ tourist attractions also include Praça do Trabalhador and Praça da Estação - Capitão “José Pio.” In the historic center, visitors can stroll through Parque da Lagoa. Cachoeira do Esmeril and Mirante - Fayez Felipe are also among the tourist attractions, so the selection includes not only city squares but also natural destinations and a viewpoint.
Near Altinópolis is Morro da Mesa, about 40 kilometers away on the border between the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais. It offers panoramic views of the region. Morro da Mesa is therefore a regional landmark outside the towns and squares mentioned above.
Cave and Waterfall in the Itambé Complex
The Itambé complex is permanently protected and managed by the Tourism Secretariat of the Altinópolis City Government. Gruta de Itambé is a cave in Botucatu sandstone, with galleries extending for more than 400 meters. A 400-meter walk leads to the cave. These two figures refer to different things: the length of the walk and the extent of the galleries inside the cave.
A 350-meter trail leads to Cachoeira do Itambé, a 60-meter-high waterfall. Cachoeira has a natural pool suitable for swimming. The trail distances to the cave and waterfall are close, but lead to different experiences: a sandstone cave and its galleries on one hand, and a waterfall and pool on the other.
Access to Gruta do Itambé is via the Arlindo Vicentini municipal road toward Altinópolis–Serrana. About 10 kilometers are paved and 2 kilometers are unpaved. Check the road surface locally before setting out.
