Águas De São Pedro can be explored through several different themes: healing waters and thermal baths, local history, and outdoor activities. You can tailor your stay to suit your interests, whether you’re more drawn to thermal waters, distinctive buildings, or outdoor activities and nature.
Mineral Springs and Thermal Waters
Three healing water springs take center stage at the Fontanário: Fonte da Juventude, Fonte Gioconda, and Fonte Almeida Salles. You can sample the water on site. This makes the visit different from the public SPA Thermal Dr. Octávio Moura de Andrade, where visitors can take daily baths using water from the Água da Juventude spring and enjoy other services on offer. The thermal spa also features a full sauna.
If you’re particularly interested in thermal waters, sampling water at the Fontanário and bathing at the SPA offer two different ways to experience this theme. The springs mentioned here and the public bath give your stay a specific focus that you can combine with the town’s cultural and natural attractions.
Churches and Local History
The Igreja Matriz da Imaculada Conceição is a modern-style building. It stands on a cross-shaped square with an illuminated fountain in the middle. The Capela Nossa Senhora Aparecida was built in 1946 by the founder of the Estância, Dr. Octávio Moura Andrade, at the highest point in the city, 612 meters above sea level.
The Quiosque do Borboleta is another testament to local history. It is the only surviving example of several kiosks built by the artisan José Martins, known as “Borboleta,” in the 1940s on behalf of Dr. Octávio Moura Andrade. The church, chapel, and kiosk represent different facets: modern architecture, the founding history of the Estância, and local craftsmanship.
Hiking Trail and Activities in Bosque Municipal
The Caminho do Sol begins in Santana de Parnaíba, passes through twelve towns, and reaches Águas De São Pedro. Casa de Santiago is its endpoint and houses an image of the Apostle James. The route was created for hikers and runs almost entirely through rural areas.
Bosque Municipal offers a different range of activities: people go there for walks and horseback riding, as well as rides on the tourist train and horse-drawn carriage. If you’d prefer a city route to a hiking trail, the Trenzinho City Tour is designed as a self-guided ride. It is aimed at adults and children and provides information about the history and attractions of Águas De São Pedro.
Gardens, Cycling, and Birdwatching
Mini-Horto features kiosks, trees, lakes, and a greenhouse for growing plants. In June 2024, it housed 5,000 seedlings. The Ciclovia provides space for daily activities on foot and by bicycle; it also includes a Mirante, a viewpoint where you can take in the scenery and rest.
Birdwatching is another specific nature-focused activity: more than 200 bird species can be observed and photographed in Águas De São Pedro. For active or leisurely outings, Águas Bike rents tricycles and bicycles. If you’re planning to use this option, we recommend checking current availability.
Former Activities at the Represa
The Represa das Palmeiras adds a historical contrast: fishing, motorboat trips, and kayaking were among its former uses. When planning your activities, you can distinguish these historical uses from the activities currently available in the town.
