German-language traditions, half-timbered architecture, and routes between forests and mountains give Nova Petrópolis several distinct points of interest. There are also specific natural and cultural sites. To help you decide, consider two questions: Which cultural side of the town interests you, and what route length suits your plans?

Culture in the Town Center and Streetscape

At the heart of Nova Petrópolis is Praça das Flores, the local name for Praça da República and a tourist attraction. The square is home to the Monumento ao Cooperativismo. It symbolizes cooperative ideals: work, unity, and strength through community. The central square and a monument with a clear message can therefore be viewed as related cultural landmarks.

Another perspective comes from the half-timbered architecture. The Casas enxaimel da rua Coronel Alfredo Steglich are two examples of authentic half-timbering. Nova Petrópolis also preserves German-language traditions, dances and folk music, traditional dress, and German cuisine. The town’s cultural identity is not limited to its buildings: music, dance, clothing, and food are all part of it. If you’d like to compare building styles and traditions, you’ll find several specific themes to explore on your trip.

Compare Routes by Length

The Pinhal Alto route offers a short option of 5.2 km and a long one of 11.4 km. The Malakoff route has a short option of 7 km, a medium option of 13.2 km, and a long one of 21.7 km. Comparing the lengths directly, the short Pinhal Alto option is 1.8 km shorter than the short Malakoff route. The long Malakoff option is 10.3 km longer than the long Pinhal Alto route.

Both routes can be covered on foot, by bicycle, or by car. You can therefore consider the mode of transport separately from the route length: first compare the available lengths, then weigh up the three options mentioned. Pinhal Alto also offers a cultural and scenic connection: the route passes through a village known for its German culture, among green forests and mountains in the inland area of Nova Petrópolis.

Natural Sites and Historical Traces

The Pinheiro Multissecular is a natural attraction in Linha Imperial and stands 45 meters tall. Ninho das Águias is a place for leisure and contemplation in the municipality of Nova Petrópolis, with a hang-gliding ramp. Both places offer a specific connection with nature, but in different ways: one is notable for the height of a natural landmark, the other for a ramp in a space for leisure and contemplation.

At the Labirinto Verde, a hidden path through cypress trees challenges visitors. At Monte Malakoff, historic buildings recall the period of German colonization in Nova Petrópolis. Country roads around Monte Malakoff pass Araucaria forests. Alongside the cultural themes of the town center, you’ll encounter other distinct features: a path through cypress trees, historic buildings, and Araucaria forests near Monte Malakoff.
