Umuarama has many sides: green spaces in the city center, cultural sites with clearly dated histories, and programs focused on activity and events. When planning your trip, it is worth keeping possible dates in mind as well as the places themselves. The forest areas and the artificial Lago AratimbĂł offer a different experience from the churches, squares and cultural attractions.

Urban Green Spaces and Recreation

Bosque Uirapuru is a 58,147 m² forest area in the city center, with paved walking paths throughout. Bosque dos Xetá, also known as Bosque do Índio, is also centrally located. It covers 179,868 m² of native forest. The two areas therefore have different features: one has paved paths, while the other encompasses a large area of native forest.

Lago AratimbĂł is an artificial lake with barbecue kiosks, a playground, restrooms and a large wooded area for visitors. If you plan to use these facilities, check them again before your visit. The natural attractions also differ in their listed amenities: the Bosques offer forest and paths, while the lake is described as having a range of visitor facilities.

Cultural Sites and City History

Praça Arthur Thomas is Umuarama’s ground zero and a reference point for the city’s history and memory. Two churches are among the dated milestones in the city’s history: Paróquia São Francisco de Assis was the first church established in Umuarama, founded on January 16, 1961. Paróquia Catedral do Divino Espírito Santo has a contemporary design and was inaugurated on June 7, 1987. Their architecture and dates offer different points of connection for anyone interested in the city’s development.

Fundação Cultural de Umuarama includes Teatro Vera Schubert, a library, and spaces for events, courses and workshops. A 2025 municipal description says that Mostra de Dança Capital da Amizade has been held annually since 2015 at Centro Cultural Vera Schubert. This distinction can help with planning: the Fundação brings together a range of facilities and uses, while the Mostra is a specific event held on a recurring schedule.

Outdoor Activities and Programs

According to the official city sports program page, checked in September 2026, Domingo no Bosque offers recreational, sports and cultural activities for all age groups at Bosque Uirapuru on the fourth Sunday of each month. If you want to plan your stay around it, check the date. Two other weekly programs start at Praça Miguel Rossafa at 7 p.m.: Smel em Movimento is a road-running and walking program for young people and adults, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays along a 5 km route. Pedalada Noturna is for children, young people and adults, and follows a 10 km cycling route on Wednesdays.

The distances and days of the week make the difference between the two regular programs easy to see: Pedalada Noturna covers twice the distance of the running and walking program and takes place on a different evening. Abraço Ambiental combines environmental education with planting native species and ends with a group hug around Bosque Uirapuru. Caminhada Ecológica introduces the public to the APA do Rio Piava protected area and combines exercise with learning about the water source that supplies Umuarama.

Events and Local Cuisine

Expo-Umuarama combines an agricultural exhibition with shows, auctions, an amusement park and a rodeo. If you would like to include this event in your trip, check the dates and program for your planned stay. This makes it easy to distinguish an event visit from the regularly scheduled activity programs, which have set days and start times.

Festa do Frango na Telha is considered a typical dish from Umuarama. Along with the cultural events, it adds a local culinary element to the nature and activity offerings.
