Antonina offers several distinct reasons to visit: railway history, religious and colonial-era buildings, the bay and Prainha, as well as nature and outdoor activities across the municipality. If you are looking for a hotel, you can choose your focus based on whether you plan to spend most of your time exploring the town’s buildings, visiting the nearby beach or taking trips beyond the town center.
Discover history through the buildings
The Estação Ferroviária de Antonina was built in 1916 and served as the terminus of the Morretes–Antonina railway line. The Maria-Fumaça route also connects Antonina and Morretes, but offers a different view of the landscape: it passes through the Atlantic Forest, over bridges and through mangroves. If you plan to make the train journey a set part of your trip, check the operating days in advance.
The churches each reflect a different aspect of history. The Igreja do Senhor Bom Jesus do Saivá includes a religious building constructed between the 18th and 19th centuries. The Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Pilar da Graciosa is around three hundred years old and is associated with the founding of the Antonina parish in 1719. The Fonte da Carioca is a rare building from Brazil’s colonial period and was protected as heritage of the state of Paraná on April 23, 1969.
Another cultural and historical landmark is the Farmácia Internacional de Antonina, which preserves furniture, equipment and utensils from historic pharmacies. These various buildings and collection pieces offer different ways to explore the town’s history, from religious heritage to the development of the railway.
Religious tradition and local sweets
The Nossa Senhora do Pilar festival is celebrated on August 15; the preparatory novenas begin as early as August 6. If you would like to plan your trip around this festival, check the current event dates before choosing when to travel.
Bananina also offers a specific culinary attraction: banana candies in a variety of flavors can be sampled at the factory shop. Check current visitor access before your visit.
Prainha and the route’s scenery
Prainha is a small beach on Antonina Bay. It is located in the Itapema neighborhood, 4 km from the center; its features include shallow water and low-growing vegetation. This makes it a different focus from the historic buildings in town. The Maria-Fumaça route, meanwhile, offers a scenic connection to Morretes, with sections through the Atlantic Forest, over bridges and through mangroves.
Places to visit across the municipality
There are also a variety of options for active and nature-focused stays beyond the town center. Pico Paraná is one of the destinations for mountaineers and is part of Antonina; access is via Campina Grande do Sul. If you plan to visit, check the route conditions before your trip. A rafting descent on the Rio Cachoeira covers about 3 km through rapids. The tour starts in Bairro Alto, in Parque Estadual Roberto Ribas Lage. Facilities there include changing rooms, a snack bar, a restaurant, a camping area, a volleyball court and barbecue grills.
A report dated August 25, 2026, described the birdwatching tower at Reserva Natural Guaricica as newly inaugurated. The tower is in the locality of Limoeiro, in the municipality of Antonina, and expands opportunities for research and observation of birds, vegetation and biological diversity. Together with mountaineering and rafting, this destination highlights another focus of the municipality: observing and studying its natural environment.
