Discover Cacimbas through its religious traditions and the cultural heritage of its Quilombo communities. When planning your trip, it is worth considering religious sites and festival dates separately. This lets you focus on visits related to religion or plan your trip around a cultural event.

Religious Traditions and Local History

The Paróquia de São José in Cacimbas was canonically established on November 4, 2018. São José is the patron saint of Cacimbas, and March 19 is associated with this patronage. The town’s history thus brings together a precisely dated ecclesiastical event and a religiously significant calendar date. Cacimbas’s anniversary is celebrated on April 29, the date of its political emancipation.

Pedra do Cruzeiro is located on the hilltop of the Serra in Sítio São Gonçalo. People visit it to pray and contemplate the natural beauty. Cruzeirinho is part of Cacimbas’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage and is visited in connection with religious vows, for visits, novenas, and Masses. The two places therefore represent different religious connections: prayer and contemplation at Pedra do Cruzeiro, and novenas and Masses at Cruzeirinho.

Cruzeiro Santa Fé is also identified as a tourist attraction in Cacimbas. Barragem Teófilo Paulino received its name in 2002. Pedra do Cruzeiro and Cruzeirinho are associated with specific religious uses, while Cruzeiro Santa Fé is identified as a tourist attraction.

Quilombo Culture and Festival Calendar

Cacimbas is home to two Quilombo communities recognized by the Fundação Cultural Palmares. Serra Feia is a Quilombo community in Cacimbas, connected with ancestral traditions and the cultural identity of the Quilombo population. On April 27, 2009, Serra Feia was certified by Fundação Palmares as a Quilombo-descendant community. The Quilombo communities in Cacimbas also produce handicrafts from sisal fibers. Those interested in Quilombo culture can explore the community, its cultural identity, and a specific craft tradition together.

Every year on November 20, the Quilombo communities in Cacimbas celebrate festivals for Black Consciousness Day. Residents, visitors, and invited guests come together to talk about local culture. The program includes dance performances, performances by local artists, and tastings of traditional foods. In Serra Feia, the annual Black Consciousness Day celebrations also include a hike to Pedra da Loca. If you would like to plan your trip around these festivals, check the exact date in advance.

A description from 2022 calls Forró Tiano a traditional São João festival held outside the usual season in the Distrito de São Sebastião. The Campeonato Municipal de Futebol de Campo, one of the most longstanding events, is also part of the local sports calendar. The traditional Arraiá Junino of the municipal nursery brought together children, families, teachers, staff, and the school community in its June 2026 edition; the program included cultural performances, traditional foods, and live Forró.
