Terra Santa combines a local lakeside origin story with religious traditions and festivals, each tied to particular editions. This brings together two kinds of travel interest: stories about the former name of the town, Pedra Santa, and specific events such as Carnapovo or Marcha para Jesus. If a festival is the reason for your trip, check the dates for the relevant edition before booking your accommodation.
Pedra Santa and the Lakeside Traditions
The place where the city of Terra Santa now stands was originally known as Pedra Santa. In the local origin story, a rocky outcrop in the lake and sacred Indigenous rituals play a role. The rock and the lake are closely connected to the cultural significance of this tradition. A local legend also tells that women who were affected bathed in the lake beside the rocks; the water was considered sacred. The story thus connects the rocks by the lake with the idea of holy water. The town’s name, landscape, and traditions give the story of Terra Santa different but interconnected aspects.
Religious Traditions and Public Festivals
Marcha para Jesus is a tradition in Terra Santa that includes processions through the streets, prayers, praise songs, and musical performances. In the 2025 edition, the procession passed through several city streets. This public religious event differs from the rituals associated with the local origin story by the lake: here, the focus is on a procession through the city.
Carnapovo 2026 brought together musical acts and traditional carnival groups. The event took place at the intersection of Travessa São Francisco and Avenida Marcos Carvalho in the São Francisco neighborhood. By contrast, Festa Agroterra 2025 took place at Parque de Exposições Manduca Bentes. The examples therefore differ both in festival format and in their stated venue: an intersection in a city neighborhood for Carnapovo, and an exhibition ground for Agroterra.
The XXXV Festival do Cajual reached its 35th edition and brought residents and visitors together in Terra Santa by the river. The first CRAS cultural festival took place in June 2026 at Praça da BĂblia and ended with traditional Toada performances by Boi Caprichoso. Taken together, these examples show different forms of public culture: a festival by the river and a cultural event in a named square with a musical finale.
Sporting Events in Terra Santa
Sporting events are also among the things that shape Terra Santa. The opening of the Terra Santa futsal championship in April 2026 took place at Ginásio Bráulio Nelson da Conceição. In July 2026, the Terra Santa championship was opened at Estádio Francisco Pereira, bringing together athletes, fans, and government representatives. In June 2026, Terra Santa’s first sports field with artificial turf was also inaugurated at the intersection of Rua Presidente Vargas and Travessa Santa Terezinha in the city center.
More than 400 athletes aged six to 14 took part in the 2nd Copa da Amizade de Futsal. This example offers a different focus from the championship openings: here, the emphasis is on a futsal competition with young participants. Together with the sports venues mentioned, it gives an impression of the variety of sporting events, without creating a single suggested itinerary.
Planning Your Stay
When looking for a holiday apartment in Terra Santa, it helps to first decide what the main focus of your trip will be: are you especially interested in the traditions surrounding Pedra Santa, religious traditions, or a particular festival? The lakeside history offers a separate area of interest, whether or not your trip is tied to an event.
