When planning a trip to Tupacyguara, there are two ways to get your bearings: cultural events and places that can be grouped by their architectural or landscape features. Events differ in whether they recur annually, take place over a specific festival period, or are public holidays; the landscape offers a choice between an artificial lake and a waterfall with particular park and trail conditions. These distinctions can help you first decide what brings you on the trip, then choose suitable highlights for your stay.

Festivals with different timeframes

FEMUART features live music, dance groups, theater, art exhibitions and cultural workshops. The 32nd FEMUART was held in Tupacyguara from September 7 to 11, 2022. That edition’s program included music, cultural and artistic performances, local food and handicrafts. The period from September 7 to 11 covers five consecutive days, making it a multi-day event. If you are planning a future trip, check the current FEMUART dates: the dates given here refer to the 2022 edition.

The street carnival is held annually and is free of charge. Unlike the dated FEMUART edition, its annual recurrence is a useful point of reference; check the exact dates and program before visiting. If you want to plan your trip around a festival, this distinction is helpful: specific dates are available for the FEMUART edition, while the street carnival returns annually.

The city calendar also marks August 15 as a holiday in honor of Nossa Senhora da Abadia, Tupacyguara’s patron saint. The holiday falls in August, whereas the 2022 FEMUART edition took place in September.

Protected cultural sites

The listed architectural complex Travessa Museu Histórico Chico Ribeiro e Casa da Cultura is located in Tupacyguara. The Igreja do Rosário is also designated as protected cultural heritage. For travelers interested in architectural heritage, these sites offer a distinct focus alongside festivals, music and performances. Their names point to two different landmarks in the town: an architectural complex and a church. This makes it possible to explore Tupacyguara’s cultural side independently of any specific event date.

Lake and waterfall

Lago de Tupaciguara is an artificial lake approximately 180 km long. There is no hiking trail at Cachoeira das 7 quedas; parking is available directly at the waterfall. The two natural attractions therefore differ in both scale and on-site access: the lake is notable for its approximate length, while the trail conditions and parking options at the waterfall are relevant when planning a visit. Before setting out, check whether parking directly at the waterfall is possible for your visit.
