The name Porto Firme is associated with crossings of the Rio Piranga: Tropeiros found a safe and reliable crossing there for their goods. The town’s history thus links its name to river crossings and the transport of goods. Another cultural connection is the Grupo de Congado Nossa Senhora do Rosário, a cultural and religious tradition and part of Porto Firme’s cultural heritage.

Festivals, music and their venues

Municipal programmes showcase different aspects of local events. The Porto Folia 2026 Carnival was scheduled to take place from 14 to 17 February. The Blocos’ parades were to end at Praça Juquinha Moreira, where the main stage was planned. This information relates to the 2026 programme, not a future edition.

The Festa da Cidade 2026 programme envisaged three days of events at Praça de Eventos, from 21 to 23 August. It also included a Tarde Recreativa with games and rides on the Carreta da Alegria; boarding was planned at Praça da Matriz. These programme items can therefore be distinguished: the three-day event at Praça de Eventos and the recreational activities with a separate boarding point at Praça da Matriz.

ExpoArte Porto Firme was also announced for 2026 as a cultural event celebrating creativity and talent. Porto Firme’s second Feira de Gastronomia was planned for 27 June 2026 on Avenida 18 de Agosto, near the town hall and Praça da Matriz. According to the announcement, it was to feature good food, culture and music, as well as a live show. The scheduled date in June has now passed, so the announcement does not describe a current offering.

A 2023 report on the second meeting of music ensembles describes the event opening with individual parades by the bands along Avenida 18 de Agosto. The individual performances then took place at Praça Juquinha Moreira. The report thus links a street parade with performances in a square—two different settings for the same music event.

A municipal events calendar, updated on 28 September 2023, lists the Festa de Santa Rita – Ribeirão for May, the Festa de Santo Antônio – Santo Antônio das Posses for July, and the Festa de São Tiago – Vinte Alqueires and Festa de Aniversário da Cidade for August. These entries reflect the calendar as it stood at the time; check future dates before travelling.

Plan your dates and accommodation search

If you would like to plan your trip around a festival, first check whether an event has been announced for your chosen travel period and, if so, when it will take place.

MGC-482 is also a useful road reference: it is a 29-kilometre route between Viçosa and Porto Firme and connects to BR-116. Along with the named venues, this provides several points of reference for planning, without implying a specific itinerary.
