The Passa-Vinte railway station building is in the town center and can be reached uphill via Rua Liberdade, next to Praça Major Francisco Cândido Alves. From the center, the hiking trail leads toward the summit of Pedreira; Gruta da Pedreira is along the way. This makes it possible to distinguish between two different landmarks: the railway station building in the town center and a cave on a scenic route.
Town Center and Trail to Pedreira
Gruta da Pedreira is a cave-like formation carved into the rock. Its shape differs from the open waterfalls that are another scenic feature of the municipality. At the same time, it lies on the hiking trail to the summit of Pedreira. When deciding what to focus on during a trip, you can distinguish a cave along a hiking route from waterfalls with their natural pools. The trail to the summit begins in the center and passes by the cave.
Landscapes and Waterfalls
At Represa da Usina, the setting shifts from the town center to the municipality as a whole: it lies at the entrance to the district of Carlos Euler and is a scenic spot for contemplation. It can be reached via the road between the district and the town of Passa Vinte; confirm access conditions locally. Cachoeira do Lajeado is in the rural area of Passa Vinte, on the road to the district of Carlos Euler. Walks and hikes are possible on the trails there. You can swim in the pools; there is also space for picnics and outdoor gatherings. Road and trail conditions can change, so check them locally.
The waterfalls differ in their specific landscape features. At Cachoeira de Carlos Euler, in the district of Carlos Euler about ten kilometers from Passa Vinte, a natural pool forms directly at the foot of the waterfall; below it is another, even larger pool. At Cachoeira do Djalma, the rocks and a large natural pool take center stage: the waterfall stretches for almost 20 meters between rocks, and clear water forms a pool in front of it. Thus, the two-tiered pool formation at Carlos Euler can be contrasted with the rocky cascade and large pool at Djalma.
Cachoeira da Princesa is also in the municipality’s rural area; a large rock face and lush nature define its landscape. Cachoeira da Fumaça offers a different experience: it is in Rio Preto, on the border between Resende in Rio de Janeiro and Passa Vinte in Minas Gerais, and is protected for its natural significance. During high water, it creates a dense, bright mist and a steady, fine spray. The spray’s intensity varies seasonally with the water flow. The waterfall is considered surprisingly beautiful.
Festa de Santo Antônio
One cultural highlight is Festa de Santo Antônio, a traditional religious and cultural celebration held every year in the municipality of Passa Vinte, Minas Gerais. It includes Masses, processions, parish fairs, musical performances and stalls selling typical foods. The festival offers a distinct focus alongside the natural attractions. If you would like to include the celebration in your trip, check the dates for the relevant year’s event.
