Discover Campo Verde through its cultural history, religious traditions and landscape. One focal point is Capim Branco, where the community’s history meets a museum housed in a replica of the first telegraph station in the state of Mato Grosso, as well as centuries-old houses. The area around Campo Verde also offers natural attractions, including waterfalls, a cave and a canyon. When planning your trip, it helps to distinguish Capim Branco from the attractions in the surrounding area and to keep in mind the access requirements for individual visits.

History in Capim Branco

The Museu da História de Campo Verde is located in Capim Branco in a replica of the first telegraph station in the state of Mato Grosso. Cândido Rondon built the station in 1896. The museum’s collection includes objects from the Capim Branco community and items that illustrate the origins of the municipality of Campo Verde. Two perspectives come together here: the community’s history and the founding of the municipality of Campo Verde, complemented by the history of the telegraph station.

The houses in Capim Branco also point to the area’s past. The historic community has centuries-old houses built during the settlement of the region in the 19th century. The museum, its collection and the houses thus offer different perspectives on history: an early telegraph station, objects from the community and built heritage dating from the 19th century.

Faith and early settlement

On Morro da Cruz stands a wooden cross dating from 1933, erected by local resident Pedro Boleiro. It became a symbol of faith and a pilgrimage site for the community. Morro da Rapadura offers a different perspective on the past. It is home to a small archaeological site with rock inscriptions that point to human settlement in the region more than 4,500 years ago. While Morro da Cruz is associated with faith and community, the inscriptions point to very early settlement; the two sites thus tell different sides of Campo Verde’s history.

Nature attractions and visitor facilities

The natural surroundings of Campo Verde include hills, mountain ranges, rivers, streams, lakes, caves and rock formations. Several waterfalls lie in the area around Capim Branco. They can only be visited with permission from the private owners, so arrange this in advance. Visitor facilities in Capim Branco include restaurants, a fee-based fishing facility and a bathing area with swimming pools and a place to relax.

In the area around Campo Verde, Almiscarada Waterfall is located on Fazenda Água Fria and has a drop of about 10 meters. Aroe Jari Cave, also known as Caverna do Francês, is also on Fazenda Água Fria, 49 kilometers from the center of Campo Verde. The two natural attractions are distinct: Almiscarada is a waterfall, while Aroe Jari is a cave.

Cidade de Pedra is in the region of Agrovila João Ponce de Arruda, about 25 kilometers from Campo Verde. It includes a canyon that is 600 meters long, 80 meters wide and 50 meters deep. Access to the private property requires the owners’ permission.

Arrange visits in advance

The Trilha dos Alimentos project is located in Assentamento 14 de Agosto in the municipality of Campo Verde. It is designed specifically for children, teenagers and young adults, combining recreation with cultural and historical learning. If you are planning to visit, confirm in advance whether the project is currently operating and how to arrange a visit.

In June 2026, visits to a farm were planned at Assentamento Santo Antônio da Fartura. Visitors were to be able to sample and buy coffee, sweets and other foods made by the owners. Before planning your trip, ask whether a visit can currently be arranged.
