Alta Floresta combines nature experiences with specific cultural and everyday places. Cristalino State Park, the Amazon forest, seasonal changes on the Teles Pires River, and a museum with a broad range of collections give a trip different focal points. There is also a market held on Sunday mornings and several places for activities and handicrafts. So when comparing hotels in Alta Floresta, it helps to first consider which of these aspects of the destination you want to shape your stay.

Forest, River and Natural Attractions

Cristalino State Park covers 66,900 hectares in the Amazon biome and extends across Alta Floresta and Novo Mundo. It is classified as a fully protected area. The Amazon forest in the municipality of Alta Floresta is also characterized by species-rich flora and fauna, as well as centuries-old trees. This brings both the large protected area and the municipality’s natural features into focus.

A distinctive feature of the cityscape is the Giant Fig Tree on Avenida do Setor G: it is more than 35 years old and has a trunk over four meters in diameter. The area around Lagoa das Capivaras serves residents and tourists as a public space for recreation and observing nature. The two places offer different perspectives: one is a single tree with exceptional dimensions, the other a natural area for spending time outdoors.

The Teles Pires River, also called the SĂŁo Manoel River, changes with the seasons. During the dry season, its waters are crystal clear; during the high-water season from October to May, the water is dark and high. This contrast makes the season an important point of reference for planning a trip. There is also a small beach on the Teles Pires River that tourists visit for sport fishing and recreation.

Museum, Activities and Handicrafts

The Alta Floresta Museum of Natural History has three permanent exhibition rooms. Its collections cover archaeology, paleontology, geology, zoology and ethnology. A visit to the museum therefore ranges from human history to natural history, complementing the region’s landscape-related themes with several different fields of knowledge.

SĂtio Flores offers an ecological trail, animal and bird watching, themed workshops, and artistic and cultural activities. Check the visiting arrangements before your visit. Rancho OdĂlio offers horseback riding lessons, recreational riding and equine therapy. These activities each have their own focus and should not be understood as a single unified program.

Casa do Artesanato is managed by the Associação Altaflorestense de Produtores Artesanais. Its offerings include decorative items, household goods and souvenirs made by artisans from Alta Floresta and the surrounding region. Confirm the visiting arrangements before including the venue in your plans.

Market and Culinary Connections

At the Feira Livre da Produção Rural e do Empreendedor Individual Odílio Oliveira de Paula, products from family farming, local dishes, snacks and natural products are sold on Sunday mornings. The market thus brings food and other regional products together in one place. The Sabores da Floresta food festival is considered a tradition in Alta Floresta. An account published in July 2025 reported on the eighth edition, which celebrated ingredients from the Amazon biome.

The wider destination of Mato Grosso also has its own culinary connection: Maria Isabel, a dish made with dried meat and rice, was registered as a typical symbol of Mato Grosso in 2011.
