In Ivanheima, the Encontro de Fuscas e Veículos Antigos de Ivinhema classic car gathering is part of the annual events calendar. At the 2026 edition, the classic vehicle exhibition turned Praça Central into an open-air museum, preserving the memory of the history and development of car models. A food area was also part of the program for the September 2026 edition.

Festivals and local cuisine

Rodeio Mandioca Fest is a local tradition revived by the city administration. The festival includes a traditional Tratoraço—a parade of tractors and agricultural equipment—as well as a Costelada fogo de chão: beef traditionally cooked over an open fire on the ground. The events have different focuses: the classic car gathering centers on classic car models, while the Rodeio Fest includes agricultural vehicles and a traditional dish.

Santuário and city history

Santuário Nossa Senhora Aparecida, also known as Igrejinha, was the first wooden church built by the colonizing company SOMECO. It was inaugurated on August 30, 1964. On February 12, 2025, Bill No. 2.242 was enacted, officially recognizing the Santuário as Ivinhema’s tangible historical and cultural heritage.

Praça do Santuário Nossa Senhora Aparecida was inaugurated on November 9, 2025. It is regarded as a place for gathering and prayer, as well as a living part of Ivinhema’s heritage that brings together faith, culture and preservation. Another historical landmark is the Cruzeiro at Marco Zero Ivinhemas: residents gathered there in 1963 for a religious celebration led by Padre Alderige Baggio. Thus, the history of a wooden church, a place of prayer and a religious event with a specific date stand alongside one another as distinct cultural points of reference.

Angélica in its regional context

Within the broader destination of Angélica, the municipality is part of the Vale das Águas tourist region. The Rio Piravevê forms the boundary between Angélica and Ivinhema. The river is essential to the fishermen of the municipality of Angélica and is also home to a wide variety of fish. According to local tradition, a woman named Angélica Reis offered travelers food and lodging on the banks of the Rio Ivinhema. The settlement was initially known as Porto Angélica before becoming the municipality of Angélica.

Festival programs in Angélica also have their own historical milestones: by 2024, the Festa do Peão de Boiadeiro de Angélica had been running for more than 40 years; the edition’s program included rodeo, exhibitors and an amusement park. The 39th Festa do Peão de Angélica, held in 2020, also featured a competition for the best churrasco. In the district of Ipezal, which belongs to Angélica, the 49th anniversary festival in 2025 included live music and a traditional Cavalgada with riding groups from across the region. After the ride, a traditional Queima do Alho was part of the program.

When planning a stay in Ivanheima, events in Ivinhema itself can be the reason for the trip; the city’s history offers a different cultural focus.
