Trindade combines a strong pilgrimage tradition with churches, sculptures, and places steeped in the city’s history. The Santuário BasĂlica do Divino Pai Eterno is the only basilica in the world dedicated to this patronage. The Romaria do Divino Pai Eterno also shapes the calendar: it begins every year on the last Friday in June and lasts until the Sunday of the first week of July. The exact dates vary from year to year. So, if you want to make the festival the focus of your trip, plan around the calendar for that particular year.
Understanding Trindade’s Via Sacra
The sculptures of the Via Sacra are located within the city of Trindade, on Avenida Constantino Xavier between the Santuário BasĂlica do Divino Pai Eterno and the Igreja do SantĂssimo Redentor. This is distinct from the open-air gallery along the Rodovia dos Romeiros (GO-060), which is also sometimes called “Via Sacra.” Here, the similar names refer to two different places: when planning your visit, check whether the reference is to the sculptures in the city or the gallery on the GO-060.
A 2020 description presents the Bonde do Pai Eterno, also known as the Bondinho, as a city tour in a Jardineira. The tour reportedly passes major Trindade sights and the Via Sacra. Check before your trip whether the tour is currently available.
Churches and City History
The Igreja Matriz was dedicated in 1912 as the first sanctuary of the Divino Pai Eterno and is also known as the Santuário Velho. Another connection to 1912 can be found at the Museu da Memória de Trindade: its building, called Sobradinho, was built that year. The museum preserves local culture and history, rooted in the Sertanejo traditions of central Brazil. The two references to 1912 thus represent different aspects of local history—the dedication of a sanctuary and the construction history of a museum building.
Sculptures, Culture, and Leisure
The Monumento aos Romeiros consists of five life-size sculptures by Ângelo Ktenas, a Greek artist based in Goiás. The Parque dos Romeiros is one of Trindade’s important sights and offers another named city location associated with its pilgrimage tradition.
Cultural and leisure attractions also offer different experiences. A 2020 tourism description lists an outdoor gym, a children’s playground, a covered sports hall, and a grass playing field at Parque Lara Guimarães. A description from the same year lists classes in guitar, viola, and organ, as well as choral singing, at the Palácio da Música. It presents Arca Parque as a water park with heated pools for children and adults. Before visiting, check whether the park facilities are currently available, what is on at the Palácio da Música, and whether the water park is operating.
Planning Your Journey and Accommodation
A 2020 transport directory listed Catedral, União, São Luiz, Goianésia, and Ouro e Prata for the Terminal Rodoviário de Trindade bus station. Before traveling, check which of these currently offer services. This keeps your plans grounded in verifiable travel options rather than assuming that an older list reflects current operations.
Then match the location of any accommodation you are considering to your own sightseeing plans.
