Explore Viana through a range of experiences: nature trails through the Atlantic Forest, a ramp used for free flight sports, and architectural and festival history. If you’re looking for a vacation rental for your stay, these themes can help guide your travel planning. First decide whether you’d rather spend your time hiking, exploring local architectural history, or taking part in a festival.
Nature Trails in Viana
Parque Natural Municipal Rota das Garças is located at kilometer 18.5 of the BR-262, at the entrance to the main town of Viana. Its trail is about one kilometer long and has two sections. The first 800 meters are paved and can be covered by bicycle, mountain bike, or on foot. The inner section is 256 meters long, leads into dense Atlantic Forest, is more challenging, and can only be traversed on foot.
The sections therefore differ both in length and in how you can travel along them: several ways of getting around are mentioned for the paved section, while the inner trail is for walking only. You can use these details as practical guidance when choosing your route, without treating the two sections as alike.
Another nature route is in Jucuruaba: the Trilha Ecológica de Jucuruaba passes through the Incaper Experimental Farm and Atlantic Forest with centuries-old trees. From there, you can enjoy a view of the Rio Jucu. The trail is open to visitors. The two routes therefore focus on different nature experiences: the divided trail at Parque Natural Municipal Rota das Garças and the forest path in Jucuruaba.
Free Flight Sports and Scenery
In the Universal neighborhood, Rampa do Urubu is used for free flight sports. Its size and slope make it easier to take off and land at the same ramp. This makes it a different kind of place to visit than the hiking trails: here, the focus is on the conditions for free flight sports, while the trails lead through the Atlantic Forest. If you’re interested in the sport, you can consider the ramp part of Viana’s recreational offerings; the details provided relate to its use and features.
Architectural History and Religious Festivals
Casa da Cultura is located in the seat of Viana, in a mansion belonging to the Lyrio family. The building features Azorean architecture and is one of the oldest structures in the state of EspĂrito Santo. It once hosted Emperor Dom Pedro II. Its historical connections and architecture offer a different perspective on Viana from its trails and outdoor activities.
Festa do Divino EspĂrito Santo has been celebrated for centuries and is considered Viana’s most traditional religious event. Its first edition took place in 1817. In 2024, the event calendar listed the 207th edition, held from May 16 to 19 at Centro de Eventos – NovaViana in the center of Viana. This distinguishes the festival’s long history from a specific past event date.
Caminhada Ecocultural de Viana is also linked to the city’s anniversary. In the 2024 calendar, it was listed for a variable date in July. The route shown there runs from Centro de Eventos in Viana Sede to Araçatiba. If you’re planning your trip around a festival or this walk, check the dates for your travel year.
