Several place names are important for getting your bearings in Paraipaba: Lagoinha and Pedrinhas are within the municipality; the Estuário do Rio Curu and Lagoa das Almécegas are located along municipal boundaries. These details help distinguish the landscape features without treating them as a single location.
River Estuary, Protected Areas and Lagoon
The Estuário do Rio Curu is where the Rio Curu flows into the sea; it lies on the boundary between the municipalities of Paraipaba and Paracuru. The APA do Estuário do Rio Curu, a protected area for sustainable use, lies along the same municipal boundary. It was established by Decree No. 25.416 of March 29, 1999, and covers 881.94 hectares.
Another landscape feature is the APA das Dunas da Lagoinha. This environmental protection area lies west of the village of Lagoinha in the municipality of Paraipaba. Lagoa das Almécegas, in turn, lies in Pedrinhas on the boundary between Paraipaba and Trairi. The two protected areas are classified differently: the APA do Estuário is designated for sustainable use and has a specified area; the APA das Dunas is described as an environmental protection area. When finding your bearings, the location details are therefore as useful as the names.
Lagoinha: Trail and Viewpoints
The Trilha Lagoinha-Lagoa da Almecegas connects Lagoinha with Lagoa das Almécegas and passes through dunes and cliffs. It therefore describes both a route between two named destinations and the terrain along the way. If you plan to take the route, check current trail conditions before your visit.
Praça do Mirante, in the upper part of Lagoinha, offers a different view of the surroundings. It is located on Avenida Francisco Henrique de Azevedo and offers a better view of the beach. The distinction is useful for planning: the Trilha is a route connecting places, while the Praça is a single viewpoint.
At the lower end of the beach, Morro do Cristo is topped by a sculpture of Jesus on the cross. The hill is about 1,000 meters from the center. Behind the Morro, Corrente de Agua Mineral, a mineral water spring, rises between the cliffs. These names provide specific landmarks for visitors interested in the area's natural features.
Folk Culture and Events
On June 12, 2025, the municipality honored two masters of Paraipaba's traditional folk culture: Maria da Conceição Santos Cardoso de Azevedo as a recognized artisan and Joaquim Duarte de Lima as a master of folk dance. The honors recognize two distinct fields: handicrafts and folk dance.
A municipal post dated July 23, 2019, describes the Regata de Lagoinha as a traditional event and mentions a competition featuring jangadas in the program. The official municipal calendar lists the 2026 Regata as its 34th edition. If you would like to plan your trip around the event, check the exact date in advance.
