Londerzeel brings nature, architectural history and brewing culture together, offering different possible focuses for a stay. The Groene Long and the Grote Molenbeek Valley represent two nature themes; Domein De Burcht and the Heidemolen lead to historic traces and traditional milling. There are also insights into beer production, a tasting and a tour of the Brabant Draft Horse stud farm. When planning, it helps to first decide which of these themes you would most like to shape your trip.

Nature, from habitats to landscapes

The Groene Long provides a habitat for yellow sedge, little owls and Natterer’s bats. These named species give the nature theme a specific focus: this is a habitat that includes both plants and animals. The Groene Long is suitable for wheelchair users and people with pushchairs.

The Diepensteynroute offers a different landscape focus. It leads through the Grote Molenbeek Valley, with lush meadows and fertile fields. In comparison, the Groene Long focuses on named species and their habitat, while the route highlights a valley of meadows and fields. This lets you consider whether you are more interested in specific wildlife or a landscape shaped by meadows and farmland.

Historic traces and traditional milling

Domein De Burcht preserves remains of Londerzeel’s oldest site: an old tower, a manor house and the foundations of a residential tower with 14th-century curtain walls. The motte and the 18th-century manor house on the estate are also protected monuments. The mix of surviving structures and foundations offers different perspectives on the town’s architectural history.

The Heidemolen adds traditional milling to this architectural perspective: during visits, the miller or an aspiring miller explains how the mill works and describes the craft of milling. Those interested in technology will find this a different kind of insight from the historical traces at Domein De Burcht.

Breweries, tastings and a stud farm

At the Palm and De Hoorn breweries, visitors can observe the production of top- and bottom-fermented beers up close. The focus is on brewing itself and the different types of fermentation. In the d’Oude Bottelarij visitor room, visitors can taste beers after a brewery visit. This offers two different ways to explore brewing culture: seeing how beer is made and tasting it.

The Palmtreintje takes visitors from the brewery to the Diepensteyn estate for a tour of the Brabant Draft Horse stud farm. This experience combines a brewery visit with a horse tour for those who would like to include both themes in their stay.
