In Linden, hiking trails, architectural history and wine offer different ways to shape a stay. When planning accommodation, it helps to decide first what you would like to focus on: time in the forest, historic sites, parks or a visit to a winery. The specific route and location details give these interests a clear connection to Linden.

Hiking and forest

The GR 128 Vlaanderenroute passes through Linden, while the Lindenboswandeling begins at Sint-Kwinten Church. The two routes therefore offer different starting points for planning: on the GR 128, Linden is a place along the way; for the Lindenboswandeling, a specific starting point is the focus. The “Linden Kerk” bus stop is 170 metres from the start of the walk. If you plan to arrive by bus, this is a useful reference point; check the timetable for your travel date. Lindenbos itself is a 35-hectare forest for walking, with old beech and oak trees.

Together with Chartreuzenbos, Lindenbos forms a varied landscape of sunken lanes, hilly paths and open views. Along with the old beech and oak trees, this creates a natural setting that encompasses both woodland and other landscape features. For planning purposes, this is a different focus from a single attraction: it is the landscape itself, rather than a building, that makes Linden appealing to hikers.

Architectural history in the town

The present-day brick neo-Romanesque Sint-Kwinten Church in Linden was completed in 1878. Hof van Raalbeek lies in the centre of Linden and is a heritage site dating from the 17th century. In the second half of the 17th century, Knight Pieter van Raelbeek built it as a “buitengoed” or “speelgoed”—a country estate or pleasure retreat. Together, the two buildings offer a clear contrast in age: the church’s completion date is given as 1878, while the history of the Hof dates back to the 17th century.

Parks on different scales

Kasteeldomein de Beauffort combines an extensive neoclassical castle with a 30-hectare landscape park laid out around 1870. Rood Kasteel is surrounded by a park of about 8 hectares with two ponds. Comparing their sizes and features, you will find a landscape park at the castle on the one hand, and a smaller estate on the other, whose two ponds are a distinctive feature.

Wine at Gut Vandeurzen

Visitors can stroll among the vines at the estate of Wijnkasteel Vandeurzen and visit the winemaking centre. At the estate’s wine bistro, De Victorie, you can taste the wines produced there. A visit can therefore cater to different interests in wine: spending time among the vines, visiting the winemaking centre or tasting the wines.

Planning your stay and accommodation

When looking for a hotel for a stay in Linden, you can use the focus of your trip as a starting point: would you mainly like to hike, explore architectural history, compare parks or experience wine?
