Talachyn District brings together a range of cultural and historical themes: Drutsk is known for its early medieval hillfort, while churches, monastic heritage and surviving estate remains can also be found elsewhere in the district. There is also Yuzefpolye Landscape Park on the outskirts of Tolochin. When looking for a holiday rental, it helps to first consider whether you would like to focus mainly on Drutsk, the places in Tolochin or the village landmarks as part of your trip.

Drutsk: the hillfort as an archaeological highlight

Drutsk Hillfort is an open-air archaeological monument where all the elements of an early medieval hillfort have been preserved. These include a fortified citadel, an outer town and a suburb, as well as earthworks and a moat. The description thus covers several components: both fortified areas and the earthworks and moat. Those interested in archaeology will find a clear reason to make the different elements of the site a focus of their trip planning.

Tolochin: museum and monastic heritage

The Tolochin State Historical and Local History Museum is an institution within the cultural sector of the Executive Committee of Talachyn District. Its address is 4 Pionerskaya Street in Tolochin. The Convent of the Holy Protection is also located in Tolochin. A monastic compound of this convent stands on the site of the former Boris and Gleb Monastery; restoration of the Trinity Church there began in 2005. The museum, monastic compound and church offer different points of reference for exploring the place and its history.

Churches and estate remains in the villages

A stone Holy Trinity Church dating from the 1890s has been preserved in the village of Monastyr. It formerly belonged to the Boris and Gleb Hermitage in the village of Neklyudovo. Near Goloshevo, a stone cross stands on the shore of Lake Glubokoye, also known as Glukhoye. It probably dates from the 11th or 12th century, is popularly known as Baba, and is included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of Belarus. The Tyundzevitsky estate was also built in Goloshevo in 1897, on the site of an older wooden building.

Further estate remains are scattered across other places mentioned here: in Ratsevo, parts of the Zamoyski estate have been preserved, including a 19th-century workers’ house, a stable and a smithy. In Reuchye are the ruins of the mausoleum of the Princes of Khomentovsky. These place names help distinguish the individual historical sites rather than treating them as one continuous area.

Park and travel guidance

Yuzefpolye offers a different focus from the hillfort, church and estate: the landscape park lies on the outskirts of Tolochin and was established in 1890. The district thus brings archaeological and architectural heritage together with a historic park as a distinct type of destination.

For general orientation, it is useful to know that the Brest–Minsk–Border of the Russian Federation highway and a railway line cross Talachyn District. For your specific plans, check the connection between your chosen holiday rental and the places you want to visit; the district-wide transport routes do not replace checking the route for each journey. It therefore makes sense to choose your accommodation base according to the places that matter most to you, without combining the different villages and sights into a single route.
