Innerlaterns is one of the villages in the Laterns Valley, home to the Laterns-Gapfohl ski area. The area has 27 km of slopes and two chairlifts, two drag lifts, a practice lift and a magic carpet. Operations may vary by season. In addition to skiing, winter hikes and natural tobogganing are among the activities to consider for a trip to Laterns.

Winter days: slopes, tobogganing and hiking

The natural toboggan run in Laterns is four kilometres long. Anyone with a valid toboggan ticket can take the Gapfohl chairlift to the start of the natural toboggan run as often as they like. Alternatively, you can walk the 355 metres of elevation gain through the spruce forest. This gives you a clear choice of ascent: repeated chairlift rides with a valid ticket or a walk through the forest. Lift operations and ticket conditions depend on the season; check which conditions apply on the day of your visit.

Laterns has a well-maintained, clearly signposted four-kilometre winter hiking trail, which you can use with or without snowshoes. The walk to the top station of the Gapfohl chairlift takes about an hour; you can take the lift back down into the valley. Check trail conditions and seasonal lift operations in advance, especially if you plan to use the chairlift for the return journey. For planning purposes, allow about an hour to reach the top station; the lift ride down is a separate part of the return to the valley.

Hiking among moorland, ravines and mountains

An alpine hiking route from Kühboden leads through varied alpine scenery and protected moorland. The ravine hike from Kühboden to Laterns passes through the cultural landscape of the Laterns Valley, with flower meadows, wet meadows, forests and ravines. These routes offer two distinct landscape highlights: the alpine route passes through moorland, while the ravine hike crosses the valley’s cultural landscape.

The Hoher Freschen can be climbed from Innerlaterns via the Gapfohlalpe. Unlike the two hikes starting from KĂĽhboden, this tour begins in Innerlaterns and leads via the Gapfohlalpe. Conditions in alpine terrain may vary; plan according to the conditions on the day of your tour.

An alpine hiking route is accessible from Rankweil railway station by taking bus 495 to the Innerlaterns Schilift stop. If you plan to use this connection, check the timetable in advance, as bus schedules may change.

A different local highlight

The KĂĽblereilager in Innerlaterns displays and sells various urns. This offers a thematic contrast to outdoor activities and a glimpse of a local retail and exhibition offering. If you are interested in this, you can include it as another focus in your travel plans.
