A Friday market, several clearly named waterside path sections and a listed aqueduct give Liesing a range of starting points for a stay. The district cannot be reduced to a single activity: market life, paths, green spaces and engineering history sit side by side. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment in Liesing, you can first decide which of these themes should shape your trip.

Market and event at Liesinger Platz

The Liesinger Frischemarkt takes place every Friday at Liesinger Platz. Around 15 stalls offer fresh food, organic products and culinary specialities. The range includes fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods and dairy products, as well as meat and fish specialities; it also includes beekeeping products, select wines and antipasti. The selection thus combines fresh staples with other specialities. The traditional Liesinger market festival is also held annually at Liesinger Platz. For planning purposes, the market and festival are two separate occasions: you can plan to visit the weekly market on Friday; for the annual festival, it is worth checking the current dates.

Cycle path and hiking stage along the Liesing

Two route descriptions provide different points of reference. The Liesingbach cycle path ends at Riegermühle, where the Liesingbach meets Breitenfurter Straße. Stage 8 of the Rundumadum hiking trail, by contrast, focuses on the sequence of stops: it runs from Breitenfurter Straße along the Liesing to Liesinger Platz and on to Atzgersdorfer Platz. It then follows the Liesing past the Wohnpark Alterlaa to Anton-Baumgartner-Straße. The difference is easy to grasp when choosing a route: a named endpoint on the cycle route versus several stops on the hiking stage.

Renaturation and the palace park

Along the sections of the Liesing designed to resemble a natural stream, a thriving stream with good water quality has re-emerged. These areas provide diverse habitats for animals and plants. This offers a different perspective on the stream than the paths do: these sections are shaped not only by its course, but also by its ecological development. The major Liesingbach renaturation project began in autumn 2020 on a shorter section near Liesinger Platz. Across the entire nine-kilometre section that has not yet been renaturalised, it brings greater flood protection, improved water quality and new green spaces for visitors. Liesing Palace Park has a small children’s playground, as well as benches and tables beneath some very old trees. The difference is clear when choosing between a nature or park focus: along the Liesing, the emphasis is on the watercourse and its habitats; in the palace park, it is on the playground and places to sit.

Aqueduct and regional setting

The Liesing Aqueduct is part of the First Vienna Mountain Spring Pipeline and is a listed structure. It thus combines a specific engineering function with a heritage-protected building, making it a clearly defined point of interest for culture enthusiasts. The regional setting is also distinctive: the Vienna Woods region includes the seven Vienna districts of Hietzing, Penzing, Ottakring, Hernals, Währing, Döbling and Liesing. Alongside specific places in the district, this offers different perspectives on a wider landscape and heritage-protected infrastructure.
