Schildorn lies on the edge of the Kobernaußerwald and Hausruckwald; rolling hills and agricultural land are part of the surrounding landscape. The area also features trails, religious history and local culture. When planning a stay, you can consider these highlights separately: the trails showcase the regional landscape, while the church and historical traces offer distinct points of interest for a culture-focused visit.

Landscape and trails

A hiking map from 2008 describes the trails as well marked. They pass numerous wayside shrines and chapels and offer views across the Innviertel from many points. The same map also describes the trails as family cycling routes. The route description thus brings together small religious monuments along the way and views of the region. On 4 September 2026, the hiking trails were listed as open daily from 00:00 to 23:59. Check the current hours before setting out, as opening hours may change.

Church and early local history

Schildorn Parish Church dates back to 1067. Saint Martin, Schildorn’s patron saint, is depicted on the altar as a bishop sharing his cloak with a beggar. This image provides a tangible connection to the patron saint. Another historical trace is the Roman main road from Wels to Burghausen, which passed through the Schildorn area. A medieval castle site lies within the parish of Schildorn, between Lohnsburg and Pattighamer Hochkuchl. The exact location of the former structure is uncertain. Together, these historical points of interest span the Roman period and the Middle Ages and reach back to the origins of the parish church.

Music and events

The Schildorn traditional costume band was founded in 1801 and is one of Upper Austria’s oldest music associations. At Schildorn Summer Night 2019, it performed an open-air concert, followed by DJ music featuring oldies as well as dance and entertainment music. The event took place in the village square and was at least the fourth edition. At the local 2018 Maypole Festival, people celebrated beside a decorated maypole at the Doblmaier Triangle; the festival had also been held there the previous year.

The Schildorn Three Kings Run also offers a dated glimpse of local events. The 2019 edition included routes of 9.5 km, 14 km, 18 km and 30 km. A report from the same year described the run as a regular fixture on the event calendar in previous years for some members of the Grieskirchen Cycling Club. If a festival or run is to determine your travel dates, check the dates and routes for the year you plan to visit.

Regional options

For water-based recreation, visitors from Schildorn can head to the bathing lake in the neighboring municipality of Pramet. Ried im Innkreis offers a different option: as the district capital, the town has numerous shopping and dining options. Ried is about a 15-minute drive from Schildorn. The two options offer different experiences: Pramet is ideal for water-based recreation, while Ried is a place to shop and dine. When planning, you can consider which of these activities you would like to add to your stay.
