At 722 metres, Hochkuchlberg divides the municipality of Lohnsburg into two distinctly different halves. The higher southern part, on the slopes of the Kobernaußerwald, is largely covered by forests. This striking division gives a stay several clear points of reference: the ridge and forest shape the landscape, while the routes, garden areas and viewpoints offer different experiences. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for a stay in Lohnsburg, you can first consider which of these highlights you want your trip to focus on.

Forest trails with different routes

The HOCHKUCHLRUNDE leads to Hochkuchl; from there, a steep climb continues to the Hochkuchlbergkreuz, which offers panoramic views. On the TURM RUNDE, the Haweg forest trail descends through the woods to the Riedlbach. The difference matters when choosing a route: the HOCHKUCHLRUNDE includes the steep climb and the views from the Hochkuchlbergkreuz, while the TURM RUNDE takes you downhill through the forest to the stream. You can choose based on which of these two kinds of route you prefer. Check trail conditions before setting out, as they may change.

Gardens and biotopes

The Obsterlebnisgarten Lohnsburg covers 2.2 hectares and includes a wet meadow with three biotopes. Within the garden is the Hochkuchler Kräuter- und Beerengarten, which covers 1,500 square metres. This makes it easy to distinguish the two areas: 2.2 hectares refers to the entire site, while 1,500 square metres refers to the herb and berry garden within it. The wet meadow and its three biotopes are another specific feature of the Obsterlebnisgarten. If you are including nature and gardens in your travel plans, you can distinguish between the larger site and the garden area within it.

Sports course in the Kobernaußerwald

The Skirollerzentrum Innviertel offers a different focus: from April to November, it has a training and competition course measuring 6,170 metres in total. It runs along the ridge of the Kobernaußerwald at an elevation of between 670 and 720 metres above sea level. The course can be divided into four individual routes ranging from 1,300 to 3,300 metres in length. The total course and the individual route lengths provide different ways to plan a day of sport. Athletes have access to toilets, showers and changing facilities; there is ample parking directly by the centre. As seasonal availability and facilities may change, it is advisable to check current conditions before your visit.

Views and a rest stop for cyclists

The viewing platform at the Kobernaußerwald Warte offers panoramic views from the Böhmerwald to the Alps. Together with the panoramic views from the Hochkuchlbergkreuz, this gives you two different viewpoints: from the Warte, the panoramic view reaches as far as the Alps, while the viewpoint at the cross is part of the steep climb on the HOCHKUCHLRUNDE. Cyclists can stop to rest and refuel at the Römerradweg-Rastplatz in Lohnsburg at any time. This adds a dedicated rest stop for cyclists alongside the trails and sports facilities.
