Taufkirchen an der Trattnach is situated in the hilly landscape of the Hausruck region in the district of Grieskirchen. The Trattnach is ideal here for excursions into nature. Extensive cycling and hiking trails run along the river, where rare and untouched flora and fauna can be found. Nature and outdoor activities are therefore a key focus when planning a trip. Depending on your interests, you can get to know the area via hiking trails, the Trattnachtal Cycle Route or its sacred buildings. When choosing accommodation, it makes sense to first decide whether riverside excursions or historic buildings should be the main focus.
Hiking and Cycling in the Trattnachtal
The Panorama Circular Hiking Trail offers two routes for exploring the scenic surroundings of Taufkirchen. Route 1 affords views towards Haag/Hausruck and the Salzkammergut; it is well signposted from the Obertrattnach stop. If views are a priority when choosing a hike, you can identify Route 1 by these vistas.
The Trattnachtal Cycle Route R17 follows the Trattnach valley from its source in Geboltskirchen via Weibern, Hofkirchen an der Trattnach and Taufkirchen an der Trattnach to Grieskirchen. Taufkirchen lies along this route, but is not its endpoint. While the Panorama Circular Hiking Trail offers two routes for exploring the surroundings, the R17 passes through a succession of towns in the Trattnachtal. This helps distinguish the activities by their character: hiking focuses on choosing a route and, on Route 1, enjoying the views; the cycle route is oriented around the sequence of towns along the valley. Check the latest route information before setting off, as details may change.
The location on the Innviertler BundesstraĂźe is also relevant for getting here: Taufkirchen an der Trattnach lies directly next to the B 137. If you are looking for accommodation in the town, you can take this road connection into account when planning your arrival.
Churches and Chapels
The Parish Church of St Martin was built in the Renaissance style and retains Gothic remnants in the sacristy and bell house. The filial church in Hehenberg is dedicated to St Vitus and dates from the 14th century. As the Pilgrimage Church of St Vitus, it is protected as an immovable monument under the regulation of the Federal Monuments Authority for the political district of Grieskirchen. The regulation came into force on 1 September 2007. The Lourdes Chapel in the village of Aich was built in 1886–1887. The buildings offer different points of comparison: the Renaissance style and Gothic remnants of the parish church, the 14th-century date of the church in Hehenberg, and the precise construction period of the chapel in Aich.
