Rindbach offers a variety of ways to discover its water and landscapes: From the parking lot by the Schießstätte, a well-marked footpath leads to the waterfall in just a few minutes. The route through the Rindbach Valley to the Gassl stalactite cave is a considerably longer outing, taking about two hours and 45 minutes. Viewpoints, legends trails and the leisure complex on Lake Traunsee each offer something different.

Waterfall, Gorge and Views

The Rindbach Waterfall cascades down several tiers, sometimes in small falls and sometimes in a smooth flow. The Rindbach Gorge and the waterfall formed after meltwater, following the retreat of the ice about 17,000 years ago, first cut into layers of deposited gravel and then into the underlying limestone. Their formation thus links two striking natural features.

The Jubiläumsweg starts at the junction of Rindbachstraße and Alte Traunstraße and leads to a viewpoint overlooking Ebensee and Lake Traunsee. The pine-covered ridge of Eibenberg offers different views: Lake Traunsee lies more than 1,000 metres below to the northwest, while Lake Offensee can be seen to the southeast. Views of the lakes depend on the weather.

Choose a Route by Duration and Theme

For a short detour to the waterfall, a well-marked footpath from the parking lot by the Schießstätte in Rindbach reaches the destination in just a few minutes. Trail conditions may vary. If you have more time to walk, you can follow a well-marked trail from Rindbach through the Rindbach Valley to the Gassl stalactite cave; the route passes the Rindbach Waterfall and takes about two and three-quarter hours. This lets you include the waterfall in a longer hike rather than approaching it only via the short access path.

The cave tour itself covers a 250-metre route and lasts about 50 minutes. The Kanzelhalle features particularly impressive stalactite formations, including a six-metre-long stalactite organ. The walking time to the cave and the duration of the tour are separate parts of the plan. If you combine both in one outing, you can account for these time estimates separately.

Legends Trails and History

Legends Trail 1 starts at the paid parking lot at the Rindbach leisure complex and follows the Rindbach to the Rindbach Waterfall, a natural monument. The eight legends trails follow the stories’ traces and lead to their settings; they can be explored on foot and, in some sections, by bicycle. For reaching the waterfall, you can therefore choose either the short access path from the Schießstätte or the longer route via Legends Trail 1, each with a different starting point.

The town’s history is also part of Rindbach’s character: At the turn of the 20th century, this part of town was the centre of summer resort life in Ebensee.

On Lake Traunsee and Along the Way

The Rindbach leisure complex lies on the southern shore of Lake Traunsee and offers opportunities for swimming and spending time by the lake. The complex also includes a designated surfing area. If you are planning to swim or surf, check the latest operating details. This makes a visit to the lake a separate option alongside the routes to the gorge, waterfall or cave.

For public transport directions, the timetable for Line 555, valid from 15 February 2026, lists the stops Jocherbrücke, Rindbachstraße, Schöffauweg and Alte Traunstraße in Rindbach. Check the current timetable before travelling. When planning your outing, it helps to distinguish the short walks to the waterfall from the longer walking times to the cave and allow enough time for your chosen focus.
