If you choose Lähn as your hiking base, you can choose between a loop to Wenglersee, the forest road to Bichlbacher Alm and the Bichlbach–Lähn Alpenrosensteig. Each route offers a different focus: a return to the starting point, a signposted route to the alpine pasture, and a high-altitude route after which you can return from Lähn to Bichlbach by train or bus. Lähn and Wengle are holiday destinations in the Lechtal Alps and Zugspitze area.

Hikes from Lähn

The Wenglersee circular hike starts at the western entrance to Lähn, leads to Wenglersee and returns to the starting point via the Panoramaweg. If you are planning a loop with a clearly named destination and return route, this itinerary is easy to follow: the lake is the destination, and the Panoramaweg is the return route. Check local conditions before setting out.

The Bichlbacher Alm forest road also starts at the western entrance to Lähn and follows the signs to the alpine pasture. Unlike the Wenglersee loop, Bichlbacher Alm is the named destination here. This makes it easier to choose between a circular hike to the lake and a signposted route to the alpine pasture.

The Bichlbach–Lähn Alpenrosensteig runs high above the villages of Bichlbach, Wengle and Lähn through especially beautiful alpine pastureland. After the trail descends into the valley at Lähn, you can conveniently return to your starting point in Bichlbach by the Außerfernbahn railway or bus. Plan your return journey as part of the hike and check the timetables in advance.

The hike from Lähn up Plattberg is recommended only for experienced hikers who are sure-footed and have no fear of heights. Bear these three requirements in mind when choosing your hike.

Local history and cultural heritage

Lähn was formerly called Mittewald. After the avalanches of 1456 and 1689, the village was rebuilt before it was given the name Lähn. This sequence links the former village name to two specific years and the later naming. It offers a way to explore the village’s development independently of its hiking destinations.

Lähn’s protected historic monuments include the Catholic parish church of Our Lady of the Snows and the cemetery. The parish church is protected as a historic monument by decree.

Getting here and winter options

The regional train from Innsbruck via Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Reutte to Pfronten stops at Lähn station near Bichlbach. Check the timetable before travelling and confirm that the stop fits your arrival plans.

The Bichlbach–Lähn winter hiking trail can also be walked from Lähn to Bichlbach. In addition, guests from Lähn and Wengle can take a free ski bus to nearby ski areas in the region. This gives you both a hiking connection and access to ski areas for winter days. The ski bus’s coverage and operating details may change seasonally; check in advance whether the service is available for your travel dates.
