Archaeology on the Dietenberg
With its hilltop settlement, the Dietenberg near Ligist in the Voitsberg district is one of Styria’s most important archaeological sites. Seven artificially created settlement terraces are still visible, each protected by a rampart. The Dietenberg is a listed monument because of its distinctive defensive system. Together, the terraces and ramparts show the settlement’s layout and its defensive function.
The reconstructed Celtic House Ligist depicts the lives of the Celts who lived on the Dietenberg around 100 BC. The comparison shifts from the settlement’s built layout to the living conditions of its former inhabitants: the Dietenberg highlights the settlement structure, while the Celtic House presents everyday life.
