Leogang combines mining history and Gothic art with hiking trails, scenic views and a range of activities. There are several points of reference for planning excursions: one route is defined by its length and stops, while another follows a path between the Asitzbahn stations. There is also a museum, historic workshops and unique experiences on the mountain and in the valley.

Mining History and Gothic Art

The Leogang Mining and Gothic Art Museum brings together mining masterpieces and sacred Gothic art of the highest European caliber. Its exhibits include the prayer nut of Mary of Burgundy. The museum thus brings two distinct areas of its collection together: mining objects and Gothic art give a visit a cultural focus that is not limited to a single subject.

Historic crafts also have a place here. A reactivated medieval forge, along with a painting workshop and a carving workshop, offers a hands-on introduction. The Leogang show mine has its own children’s program; specific program details may change. Mining traces in the Schwarzleotal valley date back to the 14th century. The cultural focus therefore ranges from viewing mining and sacred Gothic works to learning about historic crafts in a practical setting at the forge, painting workshop and carving workshop.

Trails with Different Points of Reference

The “Forest Bathing at Asitz” hiking trail is 8.2 kilometers long and passes 14 stations. These include viewpoints, rest areas, nature swings, a yoga spot and a treetop bed. The route thus combines a specified trail length with a variety of stations. Installations along the trail may change.

The art trail runs downhill from the Asitzbahn mountain station, at around 1,800 meters, to the mid-station. Temporary art along the trail may change. The two trails offer different points of reference for planning an excursion: for forest bathing, the distance and stations are the main focus; for the art trail, it is the route from the mountain station to the mid-station and the elevation.

Scenery and Other Experiences

The nature cinema features wooden installations, comfortable wooden loungers and hammocks that invite visitors to linger and take in the views. The Leoganger Steinberge stretch out to one side; straight ahead lies the limestone massif of the Steinernes Meer. The experience is shaped both by the wooden furnishings and by the direction of the view.

On the “Flying Fox XXL” adventure, participants fly 1.6 kilometers across the valley from the Stöcklalm, at a height of 143 meters above the ground. Speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour are possible. Since operating conditions may change, check the latest information before your visit.

The asphalt Velosolutions pump track is located in the valley area of the Asitzbahn. The facility covers 5,000 m² and offers a jump and dirt line. Details about the facility may be updated.
