The Lackenhof Story Trail combines a forest route of around 5.5 kilometres with seven installations. Along the way, there are places to rest, listen and smell; you can also build a stone cairn. The stations offer a variety of ways to experience the hike, without limiting the trail to a single theme.

Forest Route, Archery Course and Craftsmanship

The Ă–tscher 3D archery course also offers a unique way to enjoy the outdoors. It has more than 50 3D targets spread across four shorter circuits. Equipment can be rented at the starting point by the Ă–tscher Schirmbar at the valley station of the GroĂźer Ă–tscher double chairlift. This includes a bow, arrows with a quiver, and arm and finger protection. As rental arrangements may change seasonally, it is advisable to enquire before your visit.

Hiking by Route and Time Required

In summer, Lackenhof is a starting point for hikes. Marked hiking trails and mountain biking routes of all difficulty levels run around the village of Ötscher. If you are looking for a tour with specific details on length and duration, consider the moderately difficult Lackenhof–Ötschergräben–Erlaufklause hike: it starts in the village centre, is 13.99 kilometres long and takes around five hours. Trail conditions may change, so check them before setting out.

Another hike is called “From Lackenhof to the Ötscher” and also starts in the village centre. Weitental is the shared starting and finishing point for all three Tut-gut hiking routes. It is located opposite the valley station of the Großer Ötscher double chairlift. The hikes described therefore differ not only in name, but also in their stated starting points and planning details. Temporary trail conditions may affect access to the starting point of the Ötscher hike.

Winter: Slopes, Cross-Country Trails and Paths

The Lackenhof am Ă–tscher ski area has 19 kilometres of pistes; this infrastructure figure may change, so check the latest information before travelling. Two signposted ski touring routes lead to the Ă–tscher Schutzhaus or to the Kleiner Ă–tscher. Their availability depends on conditions. Ski touring and uphill travel on the pistes are possible on selected routes and on all pistes; winter conditions and the relevant operating rules apply.

Lackenhof has 33 kilometres of well-groomed cross-country ski trails. Snow and trail grooming determine the seasonal offering. There are also 12 kilometres of winter walking trails and three permanently signposted snowshoe trails. These paths are also dependent on winter conditions. The Kesselgraben snowshoe trail explores the winter landscape and offers views of the centre of Lackenhof and its parish church.

The children’s area at the Ötscher is for children and beginners, who can enjoy taking their first steps on skis there in a safe, playful setting. It operates seasonally. In winter, visitors can choose from different activities: pistes and ski tours, groomed cross-country trails, and routes for winter walks and snowshoe tours.

Insights into History and Nature

The Karl Teufel Private Museum displays tools used in carpentry and joinery. Such tools were also used by the lumberjacks of earlier times. The museum complements the nature and sports themes with a look at traditional craftsmanship.

The Ötscher Dripstone Cave is located in the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park, in the wider region around Lackenhof. Its geological features include stalagmites and stalactites; access is seasonal. When planning your stay, you can distinguish between hiking and winter activities in Lackenhof and a nature-themed attraction in the wider region.
