Vösendorf brings together several distinct visitor experiences: castle history and cycling culture, nativity scene making, church architecture, City Hiking Trail 12, and the seasonal lido. When planning, it is important to consider not only your interests but also the relevant conditions: some visits have fixed hours or require advance booking, while the lido has seasonal and accompaniment rules.
Castle History, Cycling Culture and Church Architecture
Vösendorf Castle was first built around 1200; its present appearance dates back to the 17th century. These are two distinct points in time: the castle’s initial construction and the form that defines it today. Vösendorf Castle is located in the heart of Vösendorf Castle Park.
The Vösendorf Castle Cycling Museum opened in 2000. Its exhibition is divided into four sections: the development of the bicycle, technical rarities, the cycling sports section, and cycling culture. The sections on development and rarities focus on technology, while cycling sports and cycling culture add sport and the cultural relationship with the bicycle. This allows visitors to explore the museum’s subject from several perspectives.
The Cycling Museum is open for visits on the first Saturday of each month from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., as well as by appointment. Please confirm your specific visit date in advance. The Peter Jordan Memorial Room honors the life and work of agricultural pioneer Peter Jordan (1751–1827). Here, the focus is on a single historical figure, unlike the Cycling Museum’s subject-based sections.
Vösendorf Parish Church adds sacred architecture to these themes: it is a hall church dating from 1628 and was rebuilt in 1686. Here, too, distinguishing between the dates helps separate the original construction from the later rebuilding.
Nativity Scene Making, Hiking Trail and Events
The Vösendorf Nativity Scene Association organizes its own courses, where participants can learn the craft of nativity scene making. Since 2004, candidates have been able to take the master nativity scene maker examination at the Lower Austrian Nativity Scene Making School. Courses to learn the craft and an examination to become a master nativity scene maker are different ways of engaging with the subject. Groups of ten or more are welcome at the 1st Lower Austrian Nativity Scene Museum by prior arrangement; please arrange your visit in advance.
For those interested in being active, City Hiking Trail 12 offers a specific route through Vösendorf and is marked on the mobile city map. If you would like to use the map for navigation, check its current availability in advance.
The KulturGewölbe, which can accommodate 100 people, regularly hosts events such as cabaret, musicals, concerts and readings. The program ranges from stage performances and music to readings. Check event dates before travelling if a particular event is a factor in planning your visit.
Check the Season and Visiting Conditions
Vösendorf Lido is open to season-ticket holders from May 1 to September 30. Visitors can purchase day tickets, but may enter the pond grounds only when accompanied by season-ticket holders. Check the current seasonal conditions before planning your visit.
Vösendorf Castle Chapel is open for visits during the municipal office’s usual opening hours. Check in advance whether a visit is possible on your preferred date. Together with the advance bookings required for the Cycling Museum and Nativity Scene Museum, as well as event dates, this highlights a practical difference between the offerings: some visits can be planned around specified time slots, while others should be arranged in advance.
