Felixdorf reveals itself through traces of its textile history and a cycle path that runs through the town. There is also a Piesting landscape with a wooded island, as well as two leisure facilities with different focuses. This gives you a clear choice when planning your trip: would you like to focus on local history, a cycling route or the specific leisure facilities?

Local history: Town Hall, monument and textile industry

The Glockenhäuschen (Bell House) at Hauptplatz 3 is protected as a monument by ordinance. It was renovated in 2002. The ordinance describes its protected status, while 2002 marks its renovation. The town hall at Hauptstraße 31 was built by Wenzel Wegwarth in 1900. Thus, the construction year and renovation year are two different dates: the town hall’s construction date is given here, while the Glockenhäuschen’s renovation is noted there.

The Felixdorf weaving and finishing mill was founded in 1868 by a group of industrialists and merchants for large-scale production. At the same time, Felixdorf developed into a textile-industry town during the era of industrial progress. The account of its founding names a company and its group of founders; the town’s history also describes the wider role of the textile industry in Felixdorf. The historical perspective therefore covers both a specific company’s founding and the town’s broader industrial development.

The Piestingtal Cycle Path and the Piesting landscape

The Piestingtal Cycle Path runs for about 22 km through Felixdorf, Steinabrückl and Wöllersdorf to Markt Piesting. Markt Piesting is considered the gateway to the Piestingtal, which is also known as the Biedermeier Valley. The cycle path is also paved and signposted along its entire length from Sollenau to Gutenstein, passing through Felixdorf. These are different details to consider when planning: the approximate distance refers to the route to Markt Piesting, while the paving and signposting describe the stretch between Sollenau and Gutenstein.

The course of the Piesting offers another perspective on the town. Its main channel runs along Felixdorf and is divided into two side channels by the weir of a small hydroelectric power station. Near Felixdorf, these channels enclose an island covered in riparian woodland before joining up again to form a stream. Alongside the cycle route, the river channels and wooded island are therefore distinctive features of the landscape.

Leisure facilities and their history

The Felixdorf forest playground opened in June 2020 and includes a toddler area, a small water playground and a fitness area. Today’s Felixdorf outdoor swimming pool has its own construction history: it was remodelled in 1991/1992 to plans by architect Bartak. Bäderbau Berndorf was the general contractor responsible for the work, and the pool opened on 28 June 1992. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between the forest playground’s three listed areas and the swimming pool’s construction history.

Plan your arrival

A useful arrival tip concerns parking at Felixdorf station: the parking facilities can be reached via MĂĽhlstraĂźe in Felixdorf and via HauptstraĂźe in Felixdorf/Sollenau. The location details distinguish between the two access roads. If you are heading for these parking facilities, pay attention not only to the station name but also to the correct street and the corresponding place name.
