Deutschkreutz combines Renaissance history, art and wine with options for exploring on foot or on wheels. When looking for accommodation in the town, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: culture, tastings or activity. You can give each local theme its own emphasis rather than squeezing them into a fixed order of visits.

Castle and Culture

Deutschkreutz Castle was built in 1625 in the Italian Renaissance style. Tours and events make the castle accessible to a wide audience. If a tour or event is important to you, plan around the relevant date. St. Martin’s Church in Deutschkreutz houses a total of 35 works of art by Anton Lehmden. This brings together two distinct artistic connections: the castle’s Renaissance history and the works in the church. In addition, 28 monuments are listed on a numbered wayside shrine map and at their locations on site. The numbering provides a clear link between the map and individual locations.

Trails for Different Interests

Two dedicated wayside shrine walking trails offer another leisure activity. There are also well-signposted and marked running and Nordic walking routes. This lets you choose between a trail associated with wayside shrines and routes designated for running or Nordic walking. The local theme is the focus on a wayside shrine trail; the other routes are identified by the type of activity.

Wine and Tastings

The regional wine shop offers more than 250 samples to taste in total. At Grenzlandhof Weingut Reumann, you can choose a vineyard tour with a picnic or a cellar tour with a tasting; advance booking is requested. Blaufränkisch is the winery’s flagship wine. The two tour formats differ in their setting: one centers on the vineyard and a picnic, while the other focuses on the cellar and a tasting. The wine shop, meanwhile, focuses on a wide selection of samples.

Cycling and Segway

The B40 Red Wine Cycle Route starts and ends in Deutschkreutz. Bicycles and modern e-bikes can be rented by the hour or by the day from the Deutschkreutz Tourist Association; check current availability before making plans. Segway rides let you explore the wine-growing region around Deutschkreutz along extensive, well-maintained paths. Segways can be rented by the hour; prior arrangements may be required. Bicycles and e-bikes are also available for daily rental, while Segways can be rented by the hour. You can therefore compare the options by your preferred rental period.

Landscape and Visit Planning

The unique Ökoland in Deutschkreutz covers about 1 ha and adds a distinctive landscape feature alongside the historic and culinary themes. This approximate area gives this part of the town’s profile a clear sense of scale. Another important detail for planning a visit is access: the Jewish Cemetery in Deutschkreutz is locked. The key is available from the municipal office; tours can also be arranged through the municipal office. Before you arrive, decide whether you would like to collect the key or arrange a tour if the cemetery is part of your visit.
