At the tip of Cape Naturaliste lies Eagle Bay, a small coastal town. To plan your trip, you can first decide what you would like your stay to focus on: the beach and water, coastal trails, or local produce and dining. Each of these themes offers a specific reason to choose Eagle Bay as a destination.
Beach and water activities
Eagle Bay Beach faces north and has a wide stretch of sand. The water is shallow and calm, making it suitable for swimming. Near Point Piquet, you can also kayak, snorkel, take photographs and picnic. This gives you a choice of different beach activities: time in the water or things to do on land. If you are travelling with a dog, note the precise local information: the northern section of Eagle Bay Beach is dog-friendly at the Eagle Bay Boat Ramp. Follow the local signage there.
Dive wreck and coastal trails
The HMAS Swan dive wreck is located in Eagle Bay and is associated with an artificial reef that supports diverse marine life. It offers a different focus from the beach, with underwater life taking centre stage. This distinction may help you decide if you are planning a stay by the water but weighing up beach activities against diving.
You can also include the coast in your plans on foot. The Meelup Regional Park Coastal Trail ends in Eagle Bay. Walking west along the coastal trail of Meelup Reserve towards Eagle Bay, you can see wildflowers such as Spider, Donkey, Enamel, Mustard and Jug orchids, as well as the rare Dunsborough Orchids. So, alongside the beach and water, the trail and its plant life offer interests of their own.
Brewery, winery and olive grove
Eagle Bay Brewing Co is a family-run brewpub with a production brewery, restaurant, garden bar and on-site vineyard. Its offerings include craft beer, wine, local produce and fresh dishes. Lunch at the brewery and late-afternoon drinks are also part of its food and drink offering. This brings several aspects of a visit together in one place: food, drinks and a view of the brewery as a production site.
At Wise Wine, the Eagle Bay property includes a winery, distillery and restaurant. At the cellar door, you can drop in without a booking to taste small-batch wines and spirits. Eagle Bay Olives, meanwhile, is a family-run grove with 1,200 olive trees. Tastings at the farm shop include olives, oils, jams, chutneys, tapenades, freshly baked bread and honey. The three venues offer different experiences: a brewery and food, wine and spirits tastings, or products from an olive grove.
Choosing accommodation to suit your travel interests
When looking for a holiday apartment in Eagle Bay, it is best to make your choice based on what you want to focus on during your stay. The beach and swimming, kayaking or snorkelling, the dive wreck, the coastal trail and places to enjoy local food and drink all offer different starting points for planning your trip. Consider which of these themes interests you most, and choose Eagle Bay as your destination accordingly. This way, your search begins with what you want to do while you are there, rather than with an accommodation category alone.
