Seaspray combines a centrally located stretch of Ninety Mile Beach with coastal walks on the western side of Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park. When planning your trip, it is worth treating beach access and walking as different priorities: the beach stretch is in the coastal holiday town, while the walks follow Shoreline Drive from Paradise Beach to Seaspray.

Ninety Mile Beach and the coastal park

The Seaspray stretch of Ninety Mile Beach is 2 km long and centrally located in the small coastal holiday town. The beach faces southeast. This makes it possible to identify Seaspray as a specific coastal town without equating its local stretch with the entire Ninety Mile Beach. Coastal conditions can change; check them before visiting.

Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park extends along Ninety Mile Beach from Seaspray to Lakes Entrance. For orientation, these are two different scales: the 2 km refers to the beach stretch in Seaspray; the park extends along the coast from Seaspray to Lakes Entrance. This helps you distinguish the immediate beach stay from the wider reach of the park when planning your visit.

Getting there and beach access points

Ninety Mile Beach Marine National Park is accessible from the South Gippsland Highway via Seaspray. In Seaspray, there are several access points to Ninety Mile Beach along Foreshore Road. As coastal conditions can change and storms can affect access points and infrastructure, check the individual access points on site.

A 2006 management plan names two options for accessing Ninety Mile Beach Marine National Park from Seaspray beach: constructed walking tracks or access around the mouth of Merriman Creek. Check these access points on site before making either option a definite part of your plans.

The 2006 management plan also describes procedures for small boats measuring 3 to 4 metres. They are launched into Merriman Creek at the Seaspray boat ramp and then taken down the creek to the sea. When the mouth is closed, the boats are dragged across the beach to reach Ninety Mile Beach Marine National Park. Check on site whether these procedures are suitable for your visit before planning around them.

Coastal walks and Surf Life Saving Club

On the western side of Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park, visitors can take coastal walks along Shoreline Drive from Paradise Beach to Seaspray. These two named places give the walk a distinct geographical setting. This allows you to plan a coastal walk as a separate activity alongside a beach visit in Seaspray.

Seaspray Surf Life Saving Club was founded in 1955. At the club, there is a large viewing platform and ramps leading down to the beach. Here, a historical connection and specific structures by the beach come together. Coastal storms can affect the infrastructure, so check the condition of the platform and ramps on site.

When choosing where to stay, you can consider the different coastal experiences: the centrally located beach stretch in Seaspray, the access points along Foreshore Road, or a walk along Shoreline Drive. If you are considering Seaspray as a destination, these geographical reference points provide a concrete basis for choosing between a beach-focused stay and a coastal walk.
