Murrayville brings together a clear view of local history and experiences in the bushland. Historic shopfronts take centre stage on Reed Street; A.R.M. explores Murrayville’s history through augmented reality. For outdoor activity, there is a scenic 10 km nature trail, while Pioneer Park offers a playground and a shaded barbecue area. When planning your visit, you can focus on architecture, local stories or nature.

Historic Main Street and Buildings

The Murrayville Commercial Precinct on Reed Street has local historical and architectural significance for the Rural City of Mildura. Between numbers 8 and 20, a continuous, largely intact row of shopfronts gives the main street its distinctive character. The way the frontages form a cohesive row makes the precinct interesting as a main street, not just as a collection of individual buildings.

The Murrayville Hotel stands at the corner of Reed Street and McKenzie Street. It is a comparatively well-preserved, two-storey building. The Murrayville Court House was built in 1914 in the Federation Arts and Crafts style and has been described as Victoria’s most remote courthouse. St Peter’s Lutheran Church recalls the history of Lutheran settlers in the region, as well as the growth of the Murrayville community. The former Murrayville Consolidated School is state heritage-listed under the identifier VHR1185. Its significance lies in its architecture and its representation of the educational concept of the consolidated school. Together, these buildings point to different aspects of local history: business life, courthouse and school architecture, and the history of Lutheran settlement.

Local History Through Augmented Reality

The A.R.M. project documents Murrayville’s history through augmented reality. A project description dated 11 November 2025 explains how to begin the historical route by scanning QR codes with a charged smartphone. It names the Reed Street Shops, the Old Post Office and a point opposite the Murrayville Pub on the Mallee Highway as starting points. Check the current route information before your visit. The Murrayville Museum presents local stories and historic shopfronts. The museum and A.R.M. therefore offer different perspectives on local history: local stories and shopfronts at the museum, and digital interpretation of history through A.R.M.

Bushland, Walking Trail and Park

The scenic 10 km nature trail passes through native bushland. The Pine Hill Walk is listed as the fifth stop on the Murrayville Historic Walk. Check current trail conditions before setting out. Wildflowers also feature in Murrayville seasonally, offering another way to experience the area’s nature.

Pioneer Park offers visitors a playground and a shaded barbecue area. Alongside the nature trail, the park’s facilities provide a separate place to visit. When planning your stay, you can decide whether to focus on the walking trail, local history or the facilities in the park.
