Meredith offers several ways to spend your time: a short riverside walk, trails across open and wooded hills, a longer loop along the Moorabool River, and the Meredith Music Festival as another reason to visit. There is also a café serving everything from coffee and breakfast to lunch. When planning your stay, you can choose how to balance outdoor activity, a café visit and a stay centred around the annual festival. When looking for a holiday rental, it helps to decide first whether the walking trails or a specific event date will shape your stay.

Creek walks, hill trails and a river route

The Ibis Middleton Walk follows the banks of Coolebarghurk Creek. It is 683 metres each way, with a stated walking time of 15 minutes. There is an ibis sculpture along the walk, bringing the waterway and a distinctive feature together on the same route. Trail conditions can change; check them before your walk.

In the Police Paddocks, grassy trails cross open and wooded hills. There are loop walks for shorter or longer distances. The landscape also features Coolebarghurk Creek, native plantings, signage and birdlife. The loop options give you an indication of the distance you can choose; the hills, plantings and birdlife also describe the character of the area.

If you are considering a longer route instead of a short riverside walk, the Possum Road and Moorabool River Loop is a 4.3-kilometre circuit with a stated walking time of 50 minutes. It leads to a lookout and a swimming spot on the Moorabool River. Swimming conditions and access can vary seasonally. Check these before your visit if swimming is important to your route choice. Compared with the Ibis Middleton Walk, this route is not only longer as listed, but also leads to a lookout and a riverside swimming spot.

Another option is the Meredith-Steiglitz to Byrne Road Trail in the Meredith Education Area. It is 3.9 kilometres each way, with a stated time of 50 minutes. These figures cannot be directly compared with the 50 minutes also given for the Possum Loop: the trail is listed as a one-way route, while the other route is a circuit. So when deciding, consider not only the time but also the format of each route.

A café visit and an annual festival

For a meal break, Meredith Farm Produce Cafe in Meredith is a specific place to visit. It serves coffee, breakfast, homemade cakes, tea and lunch. This gives you several options, from breakfast to a midday meal. Opening hours can change; check in advance when the café is open if you want to plan your visit around it.

Meredith hosts the Meredith Music Festival every year. If you want to plan your stay around it, check the dates for your intended travel year before making your travel arrangements. This lets you consider the festival as a separate reason to visit alongside the walking trails, rather than automatically combining the two.
