Río Colorado can be explored through its landscapes, local history and events. The city lies on the southern bank of the Río Colorado, which gives it its name, and at kilometer 857 of National Route No. 22. Walks along the Bardas, historic buildings and local cuisine offer different highlights. When planning your trip, you can focus on outdoor activities, the town’s history or local cuisine.

Outdoor Activities

Río Colorado’s natural attractions include walks along the Bardas, which offer access to panoramic views. Cycling trips on rural roads add another way to spend time outdoors. Before setting out on walks, check the trails and access conditions; for cycling trips, check the routes and availability again before your trip.

At Río Colorado’s bathing areas, local providers offer nautical excursions during the day and at night. If you have a particular date in mind, check availability directly with the providers. The Río Colorado Aeroclub offers scenic flights lasting approximately 25 to 45 minutes, with views of the Río Colorado. Their approximate duration and river views give these excursions a different focus from activities on trails and on the water.

Golf is another option in the area: the Río Colorado Golf Club has a nine-hole course at kilometer 860 of Route 22. The club advertises the opportunity to play golf year-round. For a specific round, it is advisable to check current availability.

Buildings and Local History

The Antiguo Puente Carretero bridge was inaugurated on May 25, 1909, and is considered part of the historical heritage of the Río Colorado community. The Estación del Ferrocarril offers a glimpse into another part of the town’s history: it opened to public transport in September 1897 and served as a hub for transporting goods and people, particularly to the markets in Bahía Blanca and Buenos Aires. While the bridge is regarded as part of the community’s heritage, the station’s former role points to the transport and trade of that era.

Another landmark in local history is the Capilla del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, the first chapel in the town of Río Colorado. It was originally built in 1908, did not survive the 1915 flood, and was rebuilt in 1936. The original construction and later rebuilding can thus be clearly distinguished in time.

Culture and Cuisine

The Fiesta del Colorado 2026 took place on Friday the 27th, Saturday the 28th and Sunday the 29th of March at Río Colorado’s municipal athletics grounds. Admission was free for the entire community. An earlier edition, the IV Fiesta del Colorado 2025, took place from March 28 to 30 and was a cultural, artistic and gastronomic event that attracted residents, visitors and tourists.

At the 2025 edition, food trucks and sales stands were run by local social, cultural, sporting and religious institutions, as well as neighborhood associations. The food on offer was therefore also shaped by groups from the local community. For regional cuisine, Trina Bodega & Viñedos serves regional dishes at its Mangia Orecchio restaurant.
