Uspallata combines hiking and trekking with colonial mining history and other outdoor activities. If you’re planning an overnight stay, it helps to decide what you want to focus on: hiking, cultural heritage, or additional activities? Specific examples range from an easy hiking option to the more demanding climb up Cerro Aconcagua.

Hiking and trekking

Hiking and trekking are among the most popular activities in Uspallata. Cerro 7 Colores is considered an easy hiking option; climbing Cerro Aconcagua is a more demanding challenge. If hiking is your priority, you can use these two examples as different benchmarks for the level of challenge you’re looking for.

Colonial mining history

Las Bóvedas de Uspallata is one of the few surviving colonial mining complexes; its furnaces, aqueducts, and mills have been preserved. In addition to hiking, these features give the destination a distinct cultural and historical focus. If you’re looking for something other than hiking when choosing activities, the mining history offers a different point of interest.

Other activities

Uspallata also offers horseback riding, astrotourism, rafting, kayaking, and mountain biking. These add a range of activities beyond hiking. If you plan to take part in any of them, check with providers before your trip to confirm current availability. Astrotourism offers a different focus from Uspallata’s more physically active activities.

La Fundición and the nature reserve

A report dated December 9, 2025, describes the La Fundición Biodiversity Interpretation Station as a visitor and information point on the route to the tourist sites and hiking trails of the Uspallata Nature Reserve, particularly in the La Fundición area. According to the report, the school community acts as host to residents and tourists visiting Uspallata. The report also says that the station serves as a starting point and source of information for later visits to places rich in biodiversity, such as Vega Grande. According to the report, students and the community can visit it. If you plan to visit the station, check in advance whether it is currently operating.

Getting there and the surrounding area

Uspallata is in Mendoza Province, 120 kilometers from the provincial capital, on National Route 7. You can reach the town via RN 7; another route is the scenic RP 52 through the Quebrada de Villavicencio.

Puente del Inca is near Uspallata and is a colorful geological formation. Its coloration was caused by the oxidation of minerals. This distinguishes the nearby natural attraction from the colonial mining history of Las Bóvedas: here the focus is geology, while there it is the preserved mining heritage.
