Los Cipreses combines horseback rides of varying durations with scenic landscapes, seasonal experiences and wine tourism. The town is located on National Route 259, 30 kilometers from Trevelin, and along the Ruta Galesa: this 39-kilometer route runs between Trevelin and the Chilean border.

Scenery and Getting Around Los Cipreses

The scenery around the Río Futaleufú international crossing includes cypress forests, waterfalls and streams on the mountain slopes. Los Cipreses also has a visitor and information center. National Route 259 and the Ruta Galesa provide a sense of the town’s location and road connections; the experiences themselves differ mainly in the time they require and their focus.

Horseback Rides and Trails of Varying Durations

Cabalgatas Apus offers guided horseback rides suitable for families, led by residents of Los Cipreses. The rides are available year-round, weather permitting. In the Los Cipreses area, you can choose short rides lasting half an hour or an hour. There is also an approximately eight-hour round trip along the Huella Andina: the route goes from Paso Guzmán to Lago Bagillt and back. This offers a choice between a short outing and a much longer tour.

Another option is the Sendero Mirador del Paraíso. This walking trail takes about an hour, is not very difficult and offers panoramic views of the Río Grande and Trono de Nubes. You must book this outing with the local Baqueano guide. Trekking in the Área Natural Protegida Lago Bagillt is of moderate to high difficulty. If you plan to visit, check the current access conditions in advance.

Tulips, Strawberries and Wine Tourism

A seasonal highlight is the tulip field belonging to the Ledesma family at Establecimiento Plantas del Sur – Tulipanes Patagonia. Two million tulip bulbs bloom there in October and November. This clearly defined season makes the experience a distinct option for seasonal planning. At Legua 13, visitors can learn about the fruit farm and pick their own organic strawberries; this experience is also seasonal.

The vineyards at Casa Yagüe were planted in 2014, 500 meters from the Río Futaleufú. Chacra Baruk and Bodega Entre Senderos are wine tourism experiences with a Patagonian character in Los Cipreses. This means the seasonal sights of tulip and strawberry cultivation sit alongside wine-related experiences, without all activities being tied to the same season.

Crafts and Guided Encounters

The Casa de la Artesana brings together craftspeople, makers of handicrafts and art, and producers along National Route 259. They offer wood crafts and handwoven textiles made from wool from the region. This adds a glimpse of local craftsmanship and products to the nature and agricultural experiences.

The Estación de Piscicultura Arroyo Bagillt is also located in the Los Cipreses area and offers information about trout. On a guided visit, families with children can interact with and feed the fish. The different activities can help you choose what to do: short or long horseback rides, an approximately one-hour panoramic trail, seasonal strawberry picking, or a guided encounter with the fish.
