For a trip to Tres Arroyos Partido, nature, water activities, and local history offer different points of interest. The district capital, Tres Arroyos, lies at the intersection of National Routes RN3 and RN228 and serves as a geographic reference point. If you first decide whether nature conservation, paddling, or historic sites are your priority, you can shape the rest of your plans around that interest.
Nature and Water
An area of about 1,100 hectares was designated the ClaromecĂł Municipal Nature Reserve in 2017. Its stated aim is to protect the biodiversity of endemic, migratory, threatened, and endangered species. Conservation here has a specific focus: preserving this biodiversity.
At Puerto Mosquito, you can rent kayaks and canoes to explore part of the ClaromecĂł Stream. Check locally to see whether rentals are currently available. This gives you a choice between focusing on biodiversity conservation and actively exploring the water.
The Albufera de Reta has been designated a protected area within the district since 2004. It is a lagoon with salt and fresh water, separated from the sea by a sandy spit. While the Claromecó Municipal Nature Reserve is described in terms of its conservation goal, the Albufera’s landscape is defined by its types of water and separation from the sea.
Local History in Copetonas and Reta
Copetonas railway station was officially opened on October 11, 1912. The building still stands, is no longer used for railway services, and now houses a police post. The Iglesia Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes in Copetonas was inaugurated in 1936 and has since been a central symbol of the local Catholic community. The station and church represent different aspects of local history: transportation and religious community life.
Bar de Lera is also part of local history. It was established in the first half of the 20th century and is considered a traditional meeting place for residents and visitors to Copetonas. This role adds a social gathering place to the institutional and religious landmarks, without assuming any particular current use.
In Reta, there are remains of a ship that were already there before the seaside resort was founded in 1930 and have been badly damaged by the sea. The year refers to the founding of the seaside resort, not to the shipwreck remains. This keeps the historical reference clear without specifying the ship’s age.
Provincial Wheat Festival
The first Fiesta Provincial del Trigo was held in 1970. The festival includes shopping areas, stalls run by entrepreneurs and craftspeople, fire pits, food areas, and craft-brewed beer. Dance and music performers take the stage at the main Juan Pesalaccia stage; the specific program varies with each edition. If you’d like to include the festival in your travel plans, check the dates and stage program for the relevant edition.
