The Vuelta al Partido de Pergamino covers 240 kilometers and passes through most of the district’s towns; a shorter half-loop of 120 kilometers is also available. Other attractions include historic sites in Mariano Benítez, local food production, and cultural and open-air destinations close to the city of Pergamino. You can shape your trip around cycling, local history, regional products, or urban attractions.

Cycling Route and Local History

The two route lengths give you a concrete choice when planning: you can consider the full loop or the available half-loop. The route passes through most of the towns in Pergamino Partido, so it is not limited to a single place.

In Mariano Benítez, a historic site on the Arroyo Cepeda features a monolith dedicated to the battles. A rest area with barbecue grills and tables is part of the site. The older buildings and institutions are also part of Mariano Benítez’s character: some are more than a hundred years old and well preserved.

Culture Close to Pergamino

In the city of Pergamino, the Museo Municipal offers an introduction to the city’s history. It is located in the former Ferrocarril Mitre railway station building. The self-guided Circuito Casco Cívico offers a different focus, taking you past Pergamino’s most important public buildings. The Circuito Ferroviario, meanwhile, explores the city’s main railway area and explains the importance of the railway to its development. The walking tours therefore focus either on public buildings or on railway history.

Plaza de la Merced has occupied a place in the heart of the civic center since 1750. Across from it stands the Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Merced, Pergamino’s patron church. The Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes is located in the Centro Cultural Bellas Artes. Together with the Museo Municipal, these places complement the historic tours with art and local history.

Walks and Open Spaces

The Paseo Ribereño González Gattone extends for 5,500 meters along both banks of the Arroyo Pergamino. The site includes three vehicle bridges and two footbridges and is specifically designed for aerobic exercise and walking. Its length, riverside setting and bridges make this Paseo a distinct option alongside the longer cycling route through the towns.

Parque General San Martín covers 25 hectares. It has a free-access sports area with an athletics track, toilets and changing rooms, as well as a separate enclosed sports area. Parque España is considerably smaller, at 6,000 square meters, and has lighting, benches, tables and playground equipment. It also has a station and a circuit for aerobic exercise. The two parks therefore differ in size and facilities.

Products and Events

Numerous local businesses, mostly family-run, make a variety of foods in the city and throughout Pergamino Partido. Pork sausages range from dry and fresh to raw and cooked products. Other offerings include hard, semi-hard and soft cheeses, butter, cream, dulce de leche, spreadable cheese and other dairy products. This variety makes local production a distinct part of trip planning, alongside cycling, local history and culture.

The Feria Verde Agroecológica takes place every Saturday morning in Parque España. If you are planning your visit around it, check the date in advance, as the schedule may change. Melquíades is considered the first distillery in the city of Pergamino and is a place worth visiting. Nearby, Kilómetro 232, Encuentro Motor is held at the Aeroclub Pergamino grounds: this annual event brings together classic cars and motorcycles, airplanes and gliders. Check the specific event dates before your trip.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

Pergamino’s bus station is located on National Route RN 8, at an entrance to the city center. There is a kiosk, a café and shops serving travelers’ basic needs. Its location and facilities provide a useful point of reference if your trip also includes the city of Pergamino.
