Reserva Mundial de Biosfera Parque Atlántico Mar Chiquito was recognized by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve in 1996. Its landscape includes a marine coast, beaches, coastal dunes, grasslands, lagoons and Pampas wetlands. These varied landscape features give the natural area its character: coast and dunes sit alongside grasslands and wetlands, while the lagoons provide their own points of reference for exploring.

The Sendero de la Albufera begins with an interactive presentation at the Sala de Interpretación de la Naturaleza. It then follows the lagoon’s shore to its mouth at the sea. Another option is a free guided excursion to the Mar Chiquita nature reserve, departing from Mar Chiquita. Fishing is also possible at the Balneario. Designated areas near the destination are open for environmentally friendly water sports such as kayaking; they can be accessed via the Balneario. If you are interested in a sightseeing tour, the Circuito turístico Reserva Creativa is located at Balneario Parque Mar Chiquita. A Centro de Atención al Visitante is also available there.

Space History and Regional Context

In the 1960s and early 1970s, Mar Chiquita was one of the centers of Argentina’s space history. A CELPA base conducted rocket tests, launches and recoveries there. This historical background offers a different way to experience the destination alongside its natural attractions: it is not only about the lagoon, dunes and wildlife watching, but also the history of rocket research.

On a broader scale, Partido de Mar Chiquita offers two connected areas for visitors: the inland and the coast. The Partido has 67 kilometers of beaches.
