Discover Mar Del Sur through two very different sides: its coast, with beaches and marine life, and its cultural sites, whose stories range from a historic hotel to an unusually designed holiday home. When planning your trip, you can weigh up marine life, fishing, architecture, and art. The specific place names and features can help you decide how to prioritize these interests during your stay.
Coast, Beaches and Nature
Chalets and Coco Loco are beaches in Mar Del Sur. At Rocas Negras Beach, rocks are covered with black mussels; there are also anemones, seahorses, small crabs, and mollusks. Rocas Negras is 2 km from the center. The Rocas Negras sector is part of the northern area of the Centinela del Mar Provincial Nature Reserve. The reserve was granted provincial status by law in November 2022. The area is designated for scientific research and for the public to enjoy nature.
There is also an image of the Virgin Mary at Rocas Negras Beach. The faithful come there to leave offerings. Rocas Negras is also known for its abundant fishing. El Remanso is on the north coast, about 2 km from Arroyo La Carolina. A range of beach sports can be enjoyed there, with fishing especially highlighted. The coastal spots therefore differ in their stated attractions: at Rocas Negras, marine life, fishing, and religious significance come together, while El Remanso is particularly associated with beach sports.
Architectural History, Design and Culture
The Hotel Boulevard Atlantic in Mar Del Sur was built in 1880 and declared a municipal site of tourist interest in 1988. Its historic exterior can be viewed from outside. The Casa de las Caracolas offers a different design theme: the holiday home is entirely covered in shells and decorated with geometric figures and drawings. The sculptures by Gennaro de Tommaso were donated by his family in 2021. The aim was to incorporate them into the cultural heritage of the Mar Del Sur community and make them accessible to visitors and tourists.
The Teatro del Sur is located in Villa Balnearia, at the intersection of Calle 31 and Calle 102. Its auditorium seats 150 people. The theater opened on January 10, 2016, with the first Festival of the Arts in Mar del Sur and a varied program of theater, cinema, music, and dance. This opening program provides a historical point of reference alongside the architectural history of Boulevard Atlantic and the town’s works of art.
Two different points of reference are given for finding your way around: Rocas Negras is 2 km from the center of Mar Del Sur, while El Remanso is on the north coast, about 2 km from Arroyo La Carolina. By comparison, Rocas Negras focuses on marine life, fishing, and the image of the Virgin Mary, while El Remanso highlights beach sports and, in particular, fishing. Chalets and Coco Loco add other named beaches to the selection. The cultural sites also each have their own focus: at Boulevard Atlantic, the year it was built, its designation, and its exterior are central; Casa de las Caracolas stands out for its materials and design. The theater adds its auditorium capacity and opening history to the selection. This gives you the option of weighing coastal, nature, and cultural interests when planning your stay.
