Lezhë offers a destination with a variety of highlights: riverside landscapes and wetlands sit alongside dunes and coastline, while the castle and memorial sites give the area its historical character. You can choose how to balance nature watching, beach activities and culture during your stay. Traditional local cuisine is also part of the municipality’s character.

Nature and Wetlands in Lezhë

The municipality includes central mountain landscapes and western lowlands with fields and wetlands; some mountains rise above 1,000 metres. Lezhë stretches along both banks of the Drin and is surrounded by the Kunë and Vain lagoons and Shëngjin Beach. The Kune–Vain–Tale area is part of a managed Category IV protected area and includes the wetland system of the lower Drin Delta. Its protected-area status is based on a government decision from 2022.

The Kune-Vain Lagoon lies near the mouth of the Drin, about eight kilometres from Lezhë. Its landscape includes lagoons, forests, marshes, islands and wild beaches. More than 200 waterbird species are found here, including flamingos and Dalmatian pelicans. Telescopes are available at the entrance; day tours focus on nature experiences, environmental education and exploring the wildlife. If you plan to take one of these tours, check what is currently available in advance.

Dunes and Beaches: Coastal Activities

Rana e Hedhun is a natural monument made up of sand dunes. The largest dune reaches up to 80 metres along the slope. Hiking and climbing the dunes are among the possible activities; the dune landscape also offers subjects for photography. At Shëngjin Beach, the focus is on other experiences: swimming, water sports, coastal walks and fishing. You can choose between exploring the dunes and enjoying a range of activities on the water.

Tale Beach is seven kilometres from the SH1-E762 road and can be reached by road.

The Castle and Historic Sites

Lezhë Castle stands on a 186-metre-high hill and forms part of the ancient city of Lissus. From the castle, panoramic views extend across the city, the Drin Valley and the Adriatic Sea. Its architecture reflects Illyrian, Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman influences. The different architectural traditions add a historical perspective to the view.

The Skanderbeg Memorial marks the site of the Assembly of Lezha in 1444 and stands above the ruins of the Church of St. Nicholas, where Skanderbeg was buried. In 1981, the church was converted into a memorial to Skanderbeg’s tomb. Another historic and religious site is the 13th-century Church of Saint Euphemia. It is a pilgrimage site for worshippers from Lezhë and the surrounding areas.

Regional Cuisine and Choosing a Hotel

Traditional local cuisine includes seafood and grilled meat. Alongside nature and history, Lezhë therefore also offers a culinary highlight to consider when planning your stay.

When looking for a hotel in Lezhë, you can first decide what you want your stay to focus on: nature watching in the wetlands, hiking and climbing the dunes, coastal activities or historic sites. Then compare the location of each accommodation with the places you plan to visit. This lets you choose where to stay according to your own travel plans.
